River Falls captures WIAC crown

River Falls captured the WIAC Tournament Championship, knocking off Oshkosh 60-59.  The Falcons captured the automatic bid for the NCAA Division III tournament in the process.

Clay Seifert’s jump shot with 2:35 to play put River Falls (24-3) up 60-58.  Oshkosh’s Max Schebel made one free throw with 1:59 left and that closed out the scoring.

The Titans (17-10) had a chance.  Ben Boots, who shoots 86.7% from the free-throw line on the season, missed both free throws after he was fouled with 55-seconds left and then missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Midwest Conference

Ripon College knocked off Lake Forest 81-72 to capture the men’s Midwest Conference Championship and earn a trip the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2002. [Read more…]

NCAA Division III Football Playoff Field is announced

ncaa-logoThe UW-Whitewater Warhawk football team enters this Saturday’s NCAA Division 3 playoffs with a 10-0 record.  The second ranked Warhawks are making their 11th postseason appearance in the last 12 years and will be searching for their seventh NCAA Division 3 title.

The Warhawks, who have won the Stagg Bowl National Championship game in six of the last nine years, will open up on Saturday at noon against Lakeland (7-3).  The Muskies earned an automatic bid by capturing the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title and are making their second straight playoff appearance.

The UW-Oshkosh Titans are in the playoffs for the second straight year.  the Titans (9-1) will host Washington-St. Louis (8-2) at noon on Saturday.

UW-Platteville (8-2) is in the playoff field for the second time in their history.  The Pioneers will square off against 9th-ranked St. John’s University of Minnesota on Saturday at noon in Collegeville, Minnesota.

NCAA D-3 Football Playoff matchups announced

UW-Whitewater Warhawk logoTwo-time NCAA Division 3 football champion Whitewater earned an at-large berth into the post season playoffs this week.

Whitewater (9-1) will host Midwest Conference Champion St. Norbert College (10-0) on Saturday at noon.  The Warhawks enter the post season having won six national championships.

WIAC champion Oshkosh (9-1) will host St. Scholastica (9-1) at 3pm on Saturday.

Lakeland (8-2) captured the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title and will open at Wheaton (10-0) at noon on Saturday.
