Badgers add Oliver to coaching staff

Former Iowa guard Dean Oliver is the newest member of the Wisconsin Badger basketball coaching staff.

Oliver just completed his third season as an assistant coach at Illinois State.  He spent three years at North Dakota before joining Illinois State.

“We are really excited to welcome Dean back to the Big Ten and the Wisconsin basketball family,” UW coach Greg Gard said in a release.  “I have been impressed with him over the years and after getting to know him better through the process, it became easy to see why he has been so successful in the past as a player and most recently as a coach.”

Oliver replaces Lamont Paris, who took the head coaching job at Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Oliver played 126 games at Iowa from 1997-2001.  He played two seasons with the Golden State Warriors before behind waived.  He went on to play eight years professionally in the U.S. and in Europe.

Paris leaves Wisconsin, named head coach at Chattanooga

Wisconsin men’s basketball associate head coach Lamont Paris is leaving Madison after being named the new head coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga on Sunday.

Paris has spent the last seven years with the Badger after six seasons at Akron.  He was named associate head coach last spring after Greg Gard was promoted to full-time head coach.

Paris was a finalist two years ago for the Tennessee-Chattanooga job, but the school hired matt McCall, who went 48-18 in two seasons and left to take the head job at Massachusetts.

The Badgers two remaining assistants both have ties to Wisconsin.  Howard Moore and Joe Krabbenhoft both played for the Badgers.  It’s not certain if Greg Gard will look to replace Paris with another coach with ties to UW.

Lamont Paris is the new associated head coach of the Wisconsin men’s basketball team, a post that Greg Gard held before he moved to the top spot last season.

Gard said Tuesday that Paris is “richly deserving” of the promotion after six seasons on the Badgers’ staff.

Howard Moore will also stay on as an assistant, after he left the Big Ten Network last December to help Gard get started in replacing the retired Bo Ryan.

Kat Vosters will continue as the Badgers’ director of basketball operations.

That completes Gard’s staff for the fall after ex-Wisconsin forward Joe Krabbenhoft was brought on as an assistant last week to replace Gary Close, who stepped down after being a Ryan assistant for 13 years.

Wisconsin’s offensive woes continue (AUDIO)

January 30, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the fifth time in eight Big Ten games, the Badgers Men’s Basketball Team failed to reach 50-points.  Wisconsin fell on the road in Columbus Tuesday night to #11 Ohio State 58-49.  After leading most of the first half, Wisconsin was outscored by the Buckeyes 34-23 in the final 20-minutes.

Travon Jackson led the Badgers with 12-points while Deshaun Thomas had 25-points while playing all 40-minutes for Ohio State.  From the field, Wisconsin shot under 37% while the Buckeyes connected on over 51% of their shots.  The Badgers also went the entire contest without getting to the foul line.  Ohio State’s ability to attack was the difference according to Wisconsin Assistant Coach Lamont Paris:
