April 4, 2014 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders has been suspended five games by the NBA for violating terms of the NBA’s drug program.

Sanders is not active at this time because of an injury he suffered in early February.  He underwent surgery to repair orbital fractures after being elbowed in a game against Houston and he’s out for the rest of the season. That means Sanders suspension won’t take effect until next season, when he is physically able to play again.

Sanders said in a statement through the Bucks: “I apologize to the entire Bucks organization and our fans for being suspended five games for using marijuana in violation of the NBA Anti-Drug Program.  I take full responsibility for my actions.”

Sanders has played in only 23 games this season, averaging 7.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots a game.  He was just starting to play well again prior to his eye injury in February.

Bucks host Magic tonight

February 18, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks return from their all-star break to host the Orlando Magic in NBA action tonight at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

They have 30-games left in the season and carry the league’s worst record at
9-43 into tonight’s game.

Unfortunately, the Bucks will be without big man Larry Sanders.  Just when Sanders was starting to put his slow start behind him with some solid performances, he suffered fractures to his right orbital bone on Feb. 8 against Houston.  He had surgery to repair those fractures and will be out at least six weeks.

Sanders had already missed 23 games when he suffered a torn right thumb ligament in a bar fight.

Zaza Pachulia will start at center in Sanders place tonight.  The Bucks are
0-3 on their six-game home stand.

against Memphis 0 for 5 from distance.  So with the Milwaukee Bucks trailing by 3 in the final seconds and the ball ended up in Sanders hands, one could predict the outcome.

Sanders took the shot and missed and the Bucks went on to lose to the Grizzlies 82-77.  It’s the 7th straight loss for the Bucks (7-31), who continue to possess the worst record in the NBA.

Bucks coach Larry Drew was questioned after the game why he even had a non-shooter like Sanders in the lineup for the big play down the stretch. [Read more…]

Larry Sanders (Update)

November 7, 2013 By Bill Scott

According to Milwaukee Police, they won’t charge anyone in a nightclub fight that left Milwaukee Bucks big man Larry Sanders with an injured thumb.

Sanders didn’t play in Wednesday night’s 109-104 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Sanders has struggled out of the gates so far this season, averaging 2.7 points and 3.7 rebounds a game in the first three games.  He signed a 4-year, $44-million contract extension before the season started.
