Lebron James leads Cavs past Bucks

March 20, 2018 By Bill Scott

Lebron James imposed his will on the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night as the Cavaliers pulled out a 124-117 win.

With Cleveland head coach Tyronn Lue announcing earlier in the day that he would be taking a leave of absence to address health issues, James responded with his  third triple-double in the last four games, 16th of the season and 71st of his career.  James tallied 40 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to move four games in front of the Bucks in the NBA Central Division race.

Kevin Love also returned to the Cavaliers lineup after missing six weeks with a broken left hand, scoring 18 points in 25 minutes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 37 points and was perfect (11 for 11) at the free throw line.  Khris Middleton added 30 points on 11 of 16 shooting, but the Bucks fell into eighth place in the Eastern Conference after Miami knocked off Denver.

The Bucks once again struggled to defend the three.  Cleveland his 15 of 38 from distance, while the Bucks were just 8 of 31.

The Bucks (37-33) will return to Milwaukee to host the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night.

Thomas honored

The Cavaliers honored former Browns tackle Joe Thomas, introducing him to the crowd during a timeout.  Thomas, who held his retirement press conference on Monday, received a standing ovation.  The Wisconsin native played his college football with the Badgers.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Team Stephen were on the losing end of Sunday’s NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles, falling to Team Lebron 148-145.

The NBA All-Star game has never been anything to write home about in terms of effort.  In past years, its been nothing more than a dunk and three-point shooting contest with little or no defense being played.

While Sunday’s game was by no means a defensive clinic, there was some individual effort on display, which made the result seem a little closer to an actual NBA game.

Team Stephen, which was picked by Golden State’s Stephen Curry, led for much of the night.  They were up by as many as 15 points at one point.  But Lebron James led the comeback for Team Lebron.  He finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and was named the games MVP.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the loss for Team Stephen. [Read more…]

Bucks pull out big win over Cavs

The Milwaukee Bucks built a 20-point lead against Cleveland, then saw the Cavaliers climb into the lead before rebounding for a 119-116 win on Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

With Lebron James on the sidelines, the Cleveland reserves went on a 24-2 run to turn a big deficit into a lead.  The Bucks finally woke up to pull out the victory, ending a three-game losing streak and a five game losing skid against the Cavaliers.

With the Bucks down by one, Tony Snell buried a three-pointer to put the Bucks up two with 58.9 seconds left.

Cleveland then missed back-to-back threes by Lebron James and Kyle Korver.  The Cavaliers then elected to defend the Bucks instead of foul and it almost worked.  But Giannis Antetokounmpo beat Lebron James to a loose ball and hit a layup and was fouled with 5.9 seconds left.  Giannis made the free throw to put the Bucks up by five.

Lebron James, who led all scorers with 39 points, hit a three pointer and the Cavs fouled Khris Middleton with 1.4 seconds left.  Middleton made the first free throw to put the Bucks up by three, then missed the second intentionally.  James desperation three was well off the mark and the Bucks held on for the win.

Antetokounmpo had 27 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Bucks.  Erik Bledsoe added 26 points and Khris Middleton had 18 points and 10 assists.  Malcolm Brogdon played 30 minutes off the bench and finished with 16 points, hitting 4-of-7 from three-point range.

The Bucks (16-13) return to action on Friday night at the Bradley Center against the Charlotte Hornets (11-19).  Since their last meeting on Nov. 1 at the Bradley Center, the Hornets have struggled, going 6-16.
