Bulaga gets three-year deal with the Chargers

March 18, 2020 By Bill Scott

Bryan Bulaga

Bryan Bulaga had spent his entire career with the Green Bay Packers, after being drafted in the first round back in 2010.  On Tuesday, Bulaga agreed to a three-year, $30-million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Bulaga started 111 of his 115 games, having gone through a pair of ACL injuries in 2013 and 2017.

The Packers counted on Bulaga’s leadership during his time in Green Bay.  They’ll now look to veterans David Bakhtiari and Corey Linsley for some of that responsibility.

The Packers did sign tackle Rick Wagner, the former Badger from West Allis, to replace Bulaga.  Wagner has started 87 of his 102 games and was released by the Detroit Lions in a cost-cutting measure.

Packers hit bump in the road in Los Angeles

November 4, 2019 By Bill Scott

Matt LaFleur

Just when everyone was telling the Green Bay Packers how good they are, they went out and laid an egg, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers 26-11 on Sunday afternoon, bring to an end their four-game winning streak.

Packers fans out-numbered Chargers fans in a visiting stadium, but the Packers played their worst offensive game of the season and the defense and special teams weren’t much better.

The Packers had no answers for the Chargers defensive pressure and any adjustments came way too late to make a difference.

The Packers offense had been making steady progress and playing at a high level.  Then they got their top receiver, Davante Adams, back from a turf toe injury that saw him miss four games.

The Packers only had three possessions in the first half and they stalled out for a number of reasons, including penalties. [Read more…]

Gordon set to end holdout

September 26, 2019 By Bill Scott

Melvin Gordon

Former Wisconsin Badger running back Melvin Gordon will reportedly end his holdout and report to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday.

The Kenosha native has been missing since the start of training camp in a contract dispute.  He’s not expected to play when the Chargers (1-2) face the winless Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

The Chargers will have the next two games after that, at home.  They’ll face the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers the following two weeks.

Gordon wants contract extension

July 11, 2019 By Bill Scott

Melvin Gordon (25)

Former Wisconsin Badgers running back Melvin Gordon wants a contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers and wants it  now.

The former Badger has reportedly told the Chargers to get an extension done now or he won’t be around for the start of training camp in less than two weeks.  Gordon’s camp said unless he gets an extension, he’ll demand a trade.

Gordon was the 15th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and is set to earn $5.6 million in the final year of his 5-year, rookie deal.

The two-time Pro Bowler has three straight seasons of at least 1300 yards from scrimmage, and his 38 career touchdowns thus far ranks only behind the Rams’ Todd Gurley among 2015 draft picks.
