Packers one win away from Super Bowl

January 17, 2021 By Bill Scott

8,456 fans at Lambeau Field on Saturday

Aaron Rodgers passed for 296 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 32-18 win over the Los Angeles Rams, advancing to next Sunday’s NFC Championship game at Lambeau Field.

It’s Rodgers fifth appearance in the NFC title game, but the first at Lambeau Field.  It’s also the second time in two years that Matt LaFleur has led the Packers to the NFC Championship game.  The Packers lost last years NFC title game 37-20 to San Francisco.

The Packers used all three of their running backs on Saturday.  With the Rams trying to take Davante Adams away, the Packers used a heavy ground attack to rush for 188 yards on 36 carries, a 5.2 yards per carry average with two touchdowns.

Aaron Jones led the way with 99 yards on 14 carries and a score.  Jamal Williams added 65 yards on 12 carries and A.J. [Read more…]

Packers hoping COVID-19 stops with Veldheer as playoff game approaches

January 14, 2021 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers placed offensive tackle Jared Veldheer on the reserve/COVID-19 list after he tested positive just two days after his arrival from Indianapolis.  Now the Packers are hoping the buck stops with Veldheer as they get ready for their NFC Divisional playoff opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

A good sign that the Packers may not be further affected by Veldheer’s positive test is the fact that standard contact tracing didn’t deem any other players as close contacts.

Now, as the Packers continue preparing for Saturday’s game against the Rams, they’re crossing their fingers that no additional positive tests surface in daily testing.

Veldheer was signed off the Colts practice squad at the very least, to provide depth at the tackle position during Green Bay’s playoff run.  He started Saturday’s game between the Colts and Bills at left tackle and helped the Packers during last year’s playoff run by playing in their divisional playoff win over Seattle.  Now, he’ll have to miss this week’s game.

Veldheer practiced with the Packers on Tuesday before his positive test was revealed on Wednesday morning.

January 10, 2021 By Bill Scott

With the Los Angeles Rams beating Seattle on Saturday and the Chicago Bears falling at New Orleans on Sunday, it’ll be the Rams facing the Green Bay Packers in the divisional playoff round at Lambeau Field.

The NFL has slotted those two teams into the first game of the weekend, at 3:35 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 16) at Lambeau Field.

The Packers had the weekend off after earning the top seed in the NFC with a 13-3 finish to the regular season.

The Rams (11-6) knocked off the Seattle Seahawks 30-20 on Saturday in Seattle.  Cam Akers rushed for 131 yards and a [Read more…]
