Bucks release three, roster stands at 15

October 21, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 10The Milwaukee Bucks reached the regular-season roster limit of 15 players by releasing three players today.

The Bucks dismissed forward Marcus Landry, guard Jorge Gutierrez and forward Josh Powell.  All three entered training camp with non-guaranteed contracts and were considered long-shots to make the team.

Landry is a Milwaukee native and was trying to return to the NBA after being out of the league since 2009-10.   The former Wisconsin Badger scored five points and pulled down three rebounds in the fourth quarter of the Bucks 106-88 win over Minnesota in exhibition play at the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old Gutierrez spent time with the Bucks last season, but had three other point guards ahead of him on the depth chart.

The 32-year-old Powell served as the Houston Rockets player development coach last season.

All 15 remaining players on the Bucks roster have guaranteed contracts and are expected to fill out the opening day roster.  The Bucks open the season next Wednesday at home against the New York Knicks.

The Milwaukee Bucks used a third-quarter surge to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 106-88 in front of a spirited crowd at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Michael Carter-Williams sparked a 17-to-four run in a third quarter in which the Bucks out-scored the Timberwolves 35-17.

Khris Middleton led six Milwaukee players in double-figures with 17 points.  Carter-Williams added 16 points, seven-rebounds and five assists.  Greg Monroe had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 12 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Former Badger Marcus Landry had five fourth-quarter points with three rebounds for the Bucks.

Shabazz Muhammed led the Timberwolves with 18 points off the bench.

The Bucks shot 51% from the field and held Minnesota to 33%.

The Bucks overcame early foul trouble and 15 turnovers in the first half but still finished with 24 turnovers for the game.  They improved to 2-3 in the preseason, with one final exhibition game left, Friday night at Minnesota.

The Bucks open the regular season next Wednesday against the New York Knicks at the Bradley Center.

Parker makes it through Bucks three-hour workout

Second year forward Jabari Parker made it through the Milwaukee Bucks three hour training camp opening workout on the UW Campus yesterday.  The 20-year-old Parker is trying to bounce back from a torn A-C-L that cut his rookie season to just 25 games.

Bucks coach Jason Kidd said Parker “looked great”.

Guard O.J. Mayo missed the workout due to a family matter.

Badger coach Bo Ryan was on hand for the workout and it allowed him to re-unite with one of his former players, Marcus Landry, who was signed to a non-guaranteed deal a month ago.

The Bucks are holding four days of practice at the U-W’s Nicholas Johnson Pavilion.  It’s part of an effort to show more of a statewide presence.  The Bucks will also return to Madison on October 20th for an exhibition at the Kohl Center.
