Narveson roughed up in Brewers loss

March 26, 2013 By Bill Scott

With just one week left before opening day (April 1 vs. Colorado), lefty Chris

Chris Narveson

Chris Narveson

Narveson served up 6-runs on 8 hits and 5 walks in 3 2/3 innings as the Milwaukee Brewers fell 9-7 to the Oakland A’s.  The big blow off of Narveson was a 4th inning grand slam by Oakland’s Chris Young.

Josh Donaldson also homered and Scott Sizemore had 4 hits and 2 rbi’s for the A’s, backing Bartolo Colon who gave up 3 runs and 6 hits over 5 innings in his third start.  Colon will have to sit out the first five games of the season while completing his 50-game suspension for a positive drug test last year. A good start for Milwaukee’s Narveson

February 28, 2013 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Brewers lefty Chris Narveson made his first start since last April (15th),

Chris Narveson

allowing 2-hits and an earned run in a 30-pitch, 1 1/3 inning stint.  Narveson is making a comeback from a torn rotator cuff.

The Brewers fell to the Kansas City Royals 3-2, their 5th straight Cactus League loss, which drops Milwaukee to 1-5 on the season.

Narveson is competing for a spot in the Brewers starting rotation.  Currently, that rotation has only two spots settled.  Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada have already been penciled in as starters.  Narveson is battling with Mike Fiers, Mark Rogers and Wily Peralta for the final three spots.  Peralta will get the start for the Brewers today when they face the Chicago White Sox.

Narveson won 12-games in 2010 and 11 games in 2011.

Rogers looking to build off of last season

February 13, 2013 By Bill Scott

Some late success down the stretch last year has Milwaukee Brewers right hander Mark

Mark Rogers

Mark Rogers

Rogers optimistic about this season.

Rogers is one of the young pitchers competing for a spot in the Brewers starting rotation.  He’s out of options, which could give him a slight edge going in, but he’ll still need to perform.

Rogers went 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 7 starts down the stretch last season.  He said that gave him plenty of confidence and he’s looking forward to the opportunity in front of him.

catchers report to the team’s spring training complex in Maryvale.

When workouts begin tomorrow, Manager Ron Roenicke and his staff will be paying close attention to the young pitchers on the roster.  Three spots behind Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada in the starting rotation are up for grabs.

The top pitchers in the mix for those three openings are Chris Narveson, who is coming off of rotator cuff surgery; Mike Fiers, who made 22 starts for the Brewers a year ago; Wily Peralta, who is one of the top prospects in the Brewers organization and Mark Rogers, who is out of minor league options. Milwaukee hosted “Brewers on Deck” Sunday (AUDIO)

January 28, 2013 By Bill Scott

Their are many things that signify baseball season is near.  On of those in Milwaukee is “Brewers on Deck” which was held Sunday at the Delta centers.  Thousands of fans had an opportunity to meet with players, get pictures and obtain autographs in preparation for the 2013 season.

Slugger Ryan Braun was one of the numerous players and front office staff on hand for the festivities.  Braun is coming off a career best 41-homers in 2012 which helped him to a 2nd place finish in the National League MVP balloting.  There are very few, if any, weaknesses in Braun’s game but he is hoping to improve:

Dempster signs with Red Sox

December 14, 2012 By Bill Scott

It looks like the Milwaukee Brewers will be going with youth when putting

GM Doug Melvin

their 2013 starting pitching staff together.

The Brewers had hoped to be able to sign free agent Ryan Dempster, but Dempster instead signed a 2-year, $26.5 million deal with the Boston Red Sox.

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the Journal Sentinel’s Tom Haudricourt that they had no plans to target another starting pitcher on the free-agent market.

The Brewers used Mike Fiers, Mark Rogers and Wily Peralta in their rotation during the second half of last season.  There’s a good chance that all three will have a shot at landing a spot in the teams rotation this coming season.

Brewers pound Pirates in series opener

September 1, 2012 By Bill Scott

Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez hit homes runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday

Corey Hart

night.

Brewers starter Mark Rogers (3-1) gave up just 1-run in 5 1/3 innings to win his third straight outing.  He had plenty of offensive support as well.  Hart and Ramirez both had three hits.  Ramirez drove in four runs and Nyjer Morgan added 3 hits, a walk and a stolen base.

The Pirates remained 1/2 game behind St. Louis for the final NL wild-card spot when the Cardinals fell (10-0) to the Washington Nationals.

Friday nights game may have been the last of the season for Rogers.  Team owner Mark Attanasio said on the team’s television broadcast during the game that Rogers would be shut down.

Rogers is at 134 1/3 innings, combining his work with Triple A Nashville and Milwaukee.  The most innings he has ever thrown in a season prior to this season is 126 innings back in 2010.

Rogers picks up first big league win

August 21, 2012 By Bill Scott

When Milwaukee Brewers rookie Mark Rogers was picked in the first round of

Mark Rogers

the 2004 Baseball Amateur Draft, he wasn’t sure how long it would take to earn his first Major League win.  But he certainly didn’t think he’d have to wait until 2012.

Rogers left last night’s game against the Chicago Cubs, trailing 3-1 after working five innings.  In that scenario, most pitchers are hoping to get enough run support to get off the hook for the loss.  What Rogers got was even better.

Rogers, who had seen the bullpen blow leads in 3 of his 4 previous games, looked on as the offense put up 8-runs in the bottom of the fifth.  That was enough to secure Rogers first career victory. [Read more…]

Kendrick KO’s Brewers on Sunday

August 20, 2012 By Bill Scott

Philadelphia’s Kyle Kendrick pitched 3-hit ball for 8-innings and beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0 on Sunday.  Kendrick struck out 7 and walked only 1 in the win.

AUDIO: Ron Roenicke on Phillies hurler Kyle Kendrick :14

Randy Wolf (3-10) took the loss for the Brewers.  He allowed 5-runs on 10-hits in 7-innings of work.  Wolf has dropped 4-straight decisions, the second time this season he’s reached that mark.

The Brewers and Phillies split the 4-game series which means the Brewers are 8-1-2 in the last 11 home series.

The Brewers open a 3-game home series against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park tonight.  Mark Rogers (0-1) goes for the Brewers.  Justin Germano (2-2) goes for the Cubs.

Brewers swept by Rockies

August 16, 2012 By Bill Scott

Another blown game by the bullpen and the Milwaukee Brewers were swept by the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in Denver.

Tyler Colvin’s 2-run double in the bottom of the 9th gave the Rockies a 7-6 win and a 3-game sweep over the Brewers.  Eric Young Jr. added a home run for the Rockies.

Rickie Weeks had three hits and Nyjer Morgan added two hits and three rbi’s in the loss for the Brewers.

Brewers reliever Jim Henderson gave up back-to-back singles and a game-clinching double to Tyler Colvin in the 9th.  It was the 23rd blown save by the Brewers bullpen.

The Brewers had dropped 2 of 3 in Houston prior to the 3-straight losses in Denver to finish 1-5 on the road trip.

Mark Rogers was in line for the win.  In four starts this season, Rogers saw victory pass him by for the third time.

The Brewers return to Miller Park to open a 4-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight.
