Hernan Perez and Eric Thames clubbed solo home runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 win in the rubber game of their three-game series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Wednesday.

Jonathan Villar’s RBI groundout in the fifth proved to be the difference.

Junior Guerra was called up from the minors and pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits for his first win of the season.  Matt Albers got the final two outs for his first save.

The Cardinals made it interesting in the ninth inning.  Trailing 3-1, Tommy Pham led off the inning with a solo home run off of Brewers left-handed reliever Josh Hader.  Hader then struck out Matt Carpenter before giving way to Albers.

Adam Wainwright gave up three runs in seven innings but fell to 0-2.  He entered the game with a 15-8 record and 2.31 ERA against the Brewers in his career.

The Cardinals played without starting catcher Yadier Molina who decided to accept the one-game suspension levied against him for his role in a skirmish with Arizona manager Torey Lovullo on Sunday.

The Brewers get Thursday off before opening a 3-game weekend series in New York against the red-hot Mets.  New York has won eight straight and entered the day on Thursday with a 10-1 record.

Brewers knock off Cubs in final at bat (AUDIO)

April 7, 2018 By Bill Scott

Shortstop Orlando Arcia singled to right against a five-man infield to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at Miller Park.

The Brewers have now won four games in their final at-bat this season.

Travis Shaw, who homered for the first time this season in the Brewers four-run fifth inning, said the ninth inning is their inning.

Brandon Woodruff made it through just 3 2/3 innings because of a high pitch count, so the Brewers bullpen was again called on for extra duty and they came through.  Josh Hader, Jeremy Jeffress and Matt Albers took it the rest of the way to preserve the Brewers victory.

The Brewers ended their scoreless inning streak which had reached 22 innings. [Read more…]

Report: Brewers add to bullpen corps

January 29, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers may still be looking for another starting pitcher, but today, they’ve added some more depth to their bullpen.

According to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, the Brewers have signed veteran reliever Matt Albers to a two-year deal worth $5 million, pending the passing of a physical.  The deal is also said to include $1 million each season in performance bonuses, based on appearances.

Albers appeared in 63 games for the Washington Nationals last season and went 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA.  He walked 17 and struck out 63 in 61+ innings.

Albers is 36-39 in his career that has spanned more than 12 seasons.  His career ERA is 4.13.

The Brewers will need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for him.
