Packers add a pair of former Dolphins

April 22, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers added a pair of undrafted free agents to their roster, just two days before the NFL Draft.

Outside linebacker Jamal Davis II and defensive tackle Gerald Willis were both released by the Miami Dolphins and claimed by the Packers.

Davis went undrafted last year, signing as a free-agent with the Houston Texans.  He later spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans before joining Miami’s practice squad.  He was then signed by the Dolphins for the final three weeks of the season.

Willis signed with Baltimore after going undrafted and ended up in Miami on the Dolphins practice squad after being waived by the Ravens.  Willis was elevated to the Dolphins regular roster for two games, playing 53 snaps before landing on I.R. with a hip injury.

Both are considered better than what the Packers could sign in the undrafted free agent pool following the upcoming draft.

Former guard Josh Sitton, who played eight seasons (2008-15) in Green Bay, has informed the club of his decision to retire with the Packers.

Sitton, who was originally selected by the Packers in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Central Florida, started 112 of 121 regular-season games and all 13 postseason games he appeared in for the Packers.  From 2009-15, he started 110 games, which is the most by a Packer offensive lineman.

Sitton was named to the Pro Bowl three times with the Packers (2012, ’14-15) and was also selected second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press three times (2013-15).  He was the first Green Bay guard to be named to the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons since Marco Rivera went to three straight from 2002-04.  He was also selected as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Deiter signs with Dolphins

June 15, 2019 By Bill Scott

Former Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman Michael Deiter officially signed a four-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.  The Miami Sun Sentinel reports the deal to be worth $3.9 million with a signing bonus of just under a million dollars.

Deiter was the 15th pick of the third round (78th overall) and was the first former Badger to be selected in the April Draft.

Deiter earned first-team All-America honors by the FWAA and The Athletic in 2018 and was a consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection and the Rimington-Pace Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Deiter started a program-record 54 games during his Wisconsin career, 24 at left guard, 16 at center and 14 at left tackle.  He became the first UW offensive lineman drafted since the New Orleans Saints made Ryan Ramczyk the final pick of the first round in the 2017 Draft.

April 5, 2019 By Bill Scott

Josh Sitton

Former Green Bay Packers right guard Josh Sitton announced that he is retiring from the NFL.

Sitton played on the Packers 2010 Super Bowl team and joins former teammates T.J. Lang and Jordy Nelson in retiring this offseason.

The 32-year-old spent eight seasons with the Packers, starting in 2008 and started every game in six of his last seven years with the team.

The Packers let Sitton go prior to the 2016 season.  He spent two years in Chicago with the Bears and his last season with Miami, although he played in just one game after suffering a torn rotator cuff.

Sitton was originally a fourth round draft pick of the Packers in 2008 out of Central Florida.  He was named to four Pro Bowls, three with the Packers and one with the Bears.  He was also named to the Associated Press All-Pro second team three times.

his (Miami) locker room and why something wasn’t done about it.  At the 2014 Scouting Combine today in Indianapolis, Philbin took to the podium and accepted responsibility for what went on in the locker room.

Philbin said, “I’m the one who’s in charge of the workplace.  We’re going to do things about this.  We’re going to make it better.  We’re going to look at every avenue and uncover every stone.  And we’re going to have a better workplace, I promise you that.”

Philbin said little when asked to provide any news on the future of Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.  He did say that owner Stephen Ross would meet with Martin sometime soon. [Read more…]
