Poor fourth quarter costs Bucks, trail Miami in series 3-0

For three quarters on Friday night, it looked like the Milwaukee Bucks were on their way to a game three victory.  They led by 12 heading to the fourth quarter, only to see the Heat outscore the Bucks 40-13 in the final 12 minutes for a 115-100 win and a 3-0 Miami series lead.

Jimmy Butler scored 17 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Bucks struggled to defend and rebound with Miami getting a number of second chance rebounds.  Eventually the Bucks started firing up three’s to no avail.  The Bucks hit 6 of 23 from the field, 0 for 10 from 3-point range and managed just 13 fourth quarter points.  They watched the Heat close the game on a 17-1 run.

No team in NBA history has ever won after tailing 3-0 and the way the Bucks have played in this series, they won’t be the first.

The team with the best record in the regular season, has not been able to take their game into the playoffs.

The Bucks used a 21-6 run of their own to go up 87-73 late in the third quarter, but their good fortunes stopped there.

Brook Lopez had 22 points to lead the Bucks.  Giannis Antetokounmpo added 21 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists.

The two teams play game four inside the bubble on Sunday.

Heat grab 2-0 series lead over Bucks

September 3, 2020 By Bill Scott

A late rally by the Milwaukee Bucks made things interesting, but in the end, the Miami Heat prevailed 116-114 to take a 2-0 lead in their second round best-of-7 series inside the bubble in Orlando.

Khris Middleton drew a questionable foul call while shooting a three pointer with 4.3 seconds left and drained all three free throws to tie the game at 114.

After a timeout, the Heat advanced the ball to the front court and Jimmy Butler’s attempt at a game winning jumper was off the mark.  But instead of seeing the game head to overtime, the official called a foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo as he put his left hand on Butler after the ball was already in the air.  Butler went to the line and sank both free throws with no time left on the clock and the Heat pulled out the 2-point win. Butler leads Miami past Bucks in series opener

September 1, 2020 By Bill Scott

It took the Milwaukee Bucks five games to win their first NBA playoff series against the Orlando Magic and it will take at least that many to win a second round series against the Miami Heat.

Former Marquette standout Jimmy Butler poured in a playoff-career high 40 points to lead the Heat to a 114-105 win over the Bucks in their second round series opener in Orlando on Monday night.

While Butler was going off on the Bucks, the Heat were busy making life difficult for Giannis Antetokounmpo.  He finished with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting but made just 4 of 12 free throw attempts.

Khris Middleton had 28 points and Brook Lopez added 24 on 8 of 10 shooting to lead the Bucks, who played without Eric Bledsoe (right [Read more…]

Quick turn-around for the Bucks, who face Miami Monday night

August 31, 2020 By Bill Scott

Just two days after knocking the Orlando Magic out of the playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks turn right around to open the second round of the playoffs against the Miami Heat on Monday night (5:30 p.m.) inside the NBA’s Orlando bubble.

The Heat swept the Indiana Pacers in the opening round of the playoffs and have had a week of rest since then.  The Bucks will have to overcome Miami’s advantage in prep time for the series opener.

The Bucks needed five games to dispatch the Magic after Orlando won the series opener.

“It is a very quick turn, but if you’ve been in the league a long time it’s probably happened to a team you’ve been a part of,” said Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer.  “I think one of our hopes is just to keep them as clean and free as they can be and go out and play and not over-complicate it, which coaches tend to do.”

No team defends the paint better than the Bucks do, but the test for Milwaukee will be to continue to defend the lane and get out to contest the three-point line.  Miami ranked second in the NBA in three-point percentage (37.9%) this season and hit just over 39% from distance in their four-game sweep of the Pacers.

Miami’s top shooter from the perimeter is second-year guard Duncan Robinson, who hit 44.6% from distance this season.

The Bucks could be without their starting point guard, Eric Bledsoe as well.  Bledsoe is listed as questionable with a right hamstring strain.

Bucks offense goes cold, fall to Heat

March 3, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks saw their six-game winning streak come to an end, falling to the Miami Heat 105-89.  Playing on back-to-back nights, the Bucks struggled to find their rhythm on offense and failed to reach 100 points for the second straight outing.  That, after they went 83 straight games of scoring 100 or more.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was held to 13 points on 6-of-18 shooting and Khris Middleton returned to the lineup with just 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting.

As a team, the Bucks hit just 5 of 31 (16.1%) three-point attempts.  Miami meanwhile was red hot from distance, hitting 18 of 37 (48.6%) for the game.  Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder scored 18 points apiece.  Bam Adebayo added 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists as the Heat became the first team this season to beat the Bucks more than once.  The Bucks are 0-2 against the Heat this season, which means they lose the 3-game season series.

Brook Lopez had 21 points to lead the Bucks offensively.

The Bucks return home to host the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum, before heading out again on a west coast trip, starting with the Lakers on Friday night.

Bucks stand pat as trade deadline passes

February 9, 2018 By Bill Scott

While the Cleveland Cavaliers were flipping nearly half of their roster, the Milwaukee Bucks stood pat as the NBA’s Trade Deadline passed on Thursday afternoon.

The Bucks had already acquired center Tyler Zeller on Monday and point guard Eric Bledsoe earlier in the season.  They’ll use their current roster to take them the rest of the way.

The Bucks will take a three-game winning streak into tonight’s game at Miami.  They’ve won 7 of their last 8 games overall.

The Bucks are expected to get John Henson back in the lineup tonight after he missed their last game with hamstring tightness.  He was able to go through a full practice on Thursday.

Thursday’s workout was also a good opportunity for Zeller to get further acquainted with his new teammates, as well as the Bucks playbook.

Selfish play does in the Bucks

January 18, 2018 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kidd took some shots at his team for their selfish play in the fourth quarter on Wednesday night.  The Bucks fell to the Miami Heat 106-101 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

For three-quarters, the Bucks moved and shared the ball.  Then when the fourth quarter arrived, the players reverted back to their bad habits of trying to do it on their own, instead of playing as a team.

The Bucks lost to the Heat for the second time in less than a week and fell to 23-21 on the season.

“I think when you become 25 or in the 28 range you tend to think about the game,” Kidd said.  “We’re talking about kids.  They’re thinking about putting the ball in the basket and they all believe they can do it and until we can think about being a team and making a play and being unselfish — good things happen, we’ve seen it.  “When we’re selfish we’re as bad as anybody in the league, and that’s what happens.

Khris Middleton had 25 points to lead the Bucks in the loss.  Hassan Whiteside had 27 points and 13 rebounds in the Miami win.

Bucks win third straight

January 20, 2016 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 10The Milwaukee Bucks held Miami to a season-low 36.5% shooting from the field and beat the Heat 91-79 in Miami on Tuesday night.

Because of injuries, the Heat was down to its third point guard and second-year pro Tyler Johnson struggled against the constant pressure of Bucks point guard Michael Carter-Williams.

The schedule makers haven’t been kind to the Heat.  They returned home from a six-game road trip for the one game against the Bucks.  Now they head out on a five-game road trip.

The Bucks are off to a 2-0 start on their four-game road trip.  They got 22 points, seven rebounds and seven [Read more…]

In desperate need of a win after six straight losses, the Milwaukee Bucks rallied to beat the Miami Heat 89-88 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Tuesday night.

Milwaukee trailed 85-71 before scoring 14 straight points, part of an 18-3 run to close out the game, which ended in dramatic fashion.

Down by two guard Jerryd Bayless forced a jump ball against the Heat’s Michael Beasley with just over 10 seconds remaining, then won the jump despite giving up six inches in height. After Bayless missed a layup, Zaza Pachulia saved the ball right to Khris Middleton, who buried the game-winning three-pointer. [Read more…]

Bucks put out of their misery quickly

April 29, 2013 By Bill Scott

As expected, the Milwaukee Bucks post-season last just 4-games.  The defending NBA Champion Miami Heat pulled off the 4-game sweep with an 88-77 win on Sunday at the Bradley Center.

Miami won all four games in the series by double digits and hardly broke a sweat.  The Heat pulled out a playoff sweep for the first time with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

James scored 30 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists in the win.

The Bucks managed to keep it close for a while, but the Heat went on a 19-5 4th quarter run to break it open. [Read more…]
