Grisham leads Brewers past Marlins

September 10, 2019 By Bill Scott

Trent Grisham finished a home run shy of the cycle, going 5-for-6 and driving in two runs, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 8-3 win over the Marlins in Miami.

Yasmani Grandal clubbed a two-run homer and Lorenzo Cain had three hits and drove in a run for the Brewers, who extended their winning streak to four games.

Grisham started the night hitting just .222.  Five hits later and his average climbed to .260.

Matt Albers got the final two outs of the fifth to get the victory in relief.

The Brewers couldn’t make up any ground on the Cubs in the Wild Card race.  The Cubs knocked off the San Diego Padres 10-2 to stay two-games in front of the Brewers.

Miguel Rojas went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Miami.  Ryan Duggar was the first of nine Marlins pitchers and took the loss.  Miami has dropped three of their last four games.

Brewers celebrate one of three 8th inning home runs!

The Milwaukee Brewers clubbed four home runs, including three in their eight run 8th inning to knock off the Miami Marlins 10-2 at Miller Park.

The Brewers played the visitors role in their own ball park.  Eric Thames snapped a 2-2 tie in the 8th with a solo home run, his third in three games.  Neil Walker later followed with a grand slam and eventually, Domingo Santana clubbed a three run home run in the big 8th.

Jeremy Jeffress made his first career start for the Brewers and breezed through the first inning.  But he surrendered two runs in the second to tie the game 2-2.  The Brewers had jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Stephen Vogt’s home run in the top of the second.

After Jeffress, Brewers manager Craig Counsell would use seven more pitchers to close out the victory.

The Brewers kept pace with the division leading Chicago Cubs, who knocked off St. Louis 8-2 earlier in the day in Chicago.  The Brewers remain 3 games behind the Cubs.

The Brewers had 19,369 fans show up for what was supposed to be a road game.  Game two of the series is tonight at Miller Park (6:10 p.m.).  Zach Davies (17-8, 3.67) faces Adam Conley (6-7, 5.23) in the pitching matchup.

Brewers vs. Marlins switched to Milwaukee

September 13, 2017 By Bill Scott

Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, the Miami Marlins scheduled home series against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend has been moved from Marlins Park to Milwaukee’s Miller Park.

Due to the brief lead time, staffing levels for concessions, guest services and other logistics will restrict seating capacities at Miller Park for the three game series.  For Friday, only Field Level tickets will be available for purchase, a capacity of approximately 10,000 tickets.  For the Saturday and Sunday games, the capacity will increase to approximately 23,000 with staffing for those two games extended into the Loge Level.

Tickets will be placed on sale at 10 am Thursday morning (Sept. 14).

Marlins Shutout the Brewers (Audio)

July 5, 2012 By Bill Scott

Mark Buehrle had the Brewers number Thursday as the (40-42) Miami Marlins blanked the (38-44) Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 at Miller Park.  The win gave Miami a split of the 4-game series.

Buehrle went 7 2/3 innings allowing just 6-hits while striking out 8-batters as his record improved to 8-8 on the season.  Michael Fiers had a solid start for Milwaukee but got nothing in the run support column.  He lasted 7 1/3 allowing 2-runs on 7-hits while striking out 9-batters but fell to 3-3 on the season.  Brewers Manager on Ron Roenicke was happy with Mike Fiers performance…

Brewers lose another late lead (AUDIO)

July 5, 2012 By Bill Scott

Brewers Closer John Axford was one strike away from notching his 15th save of the season.  Instead, Gabby Sanchez connected on a solo home run to tie the game at 6 in the 9th and the Miami Marlins went on to win 7-6 in 10-innings Wednesday at Miller Park.  Hanley Ramirez drove in the winning run in the 10th off Manny Parra.  The loss is the 9th time in the last 11-loses the  bullpen took the loss.

The Brewers seemed to have the game in hand with a 5-1 lead after 6-innings.  Starter Randy Wolf was cruising along before giving up a 4-spot in the 7th that included home runs by Justin Ruggiano and Logan Morrison.  Wolf made it through 7-innings allowing 5-runs on 6-hits but picked up his 7th no decision in his last 9-starts.  Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke explains why he left Randy Wolf in the game…

The bench comes through for the Brewers (AUDIO)

July 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

Travis Ishikawa and Nori Aoki each notched key pinch-hits as the Brewers came from behind to defeat the Miami Marlins 6-5 Monday Night at Miller Park.  The win was the 3rd straight for the Brewers who moved their record to 37-42 on the season.

After falling behind 5-2 in the 3rd inning, the Brewers began to chip away at the lead.  Carlos Gomez hit a solo homer, his 5th of the year, in the 5th inning to make it a 5-3 game.  In the 6th, Ishikawa came through with a 2-out, 2-RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.  Aoki put Milwaukee on top in the 8th with a suicide-squeeze scoring Rickie Weeks to make it 6-5.  Manager Ron Roenicke is ecstatic to have a guy like Aoki for a spot like that…

Brewers squeak by the Diamondbacks (AUDIO)

July 2, 2012 By Bill Scott

There haven’t been many things going the Brewers way in 2012.  Sunday, Milwaukee finally caught a break as they notched a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park.

The Brewers won the game in the bottom of the 9th on a crazy play.  After Aramis Ramirez walked, Carlos Gomez pinch-ran and stole 2nd.  during the steal, D-Backs catcher Miguel Montero’s throw went into center-field allowing Gomez to advance to third.  Then Gerardo Parra’s throw from center went into the crowd and Gomez was award home giving the Brewers the win.  Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke hopes this can spring the team in the right direction heading into the All-Star Break…
