Dunleavy leads Hawks past the Bucks

January 16, 2017 By Bill Scott

Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Mike Dunleavy, playing in just his second game with his new team, scored 20 points to lead the Atlanta hawks to a 111-98 win over the Bucks in Atlanta on Sunday.

Dunleavy was sent to Atlanta in the Kyle Korver deal.  He hit 4 of 5 three-pointers as the Hawks made 13 of their 26 three point shots.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 33 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals for the Bucks (20-19) in the loss.  The Bucks are now 0-3 against Atlanta (23-17) this season.

Dunleavy played two seasons with the Bucks and shot 41.6% from three-point range while in Milwaukee.

Dwight Howard had 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Seven of the 14 rebounds were offensive boards, helping the Hawks score 20 second chance points.

The Bucks will play host to the Philadelphia 76ers (2:30 p.m.) this afternoon as part of the NBA’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

Bucks fall to rival Bulls in Chicago

March 8, 2016 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 11For the second game in a row, a late Milwaukee rally fizzled as the Chicago Bulls pulled out a 100-90 win over the Bucks at the United Center in Chicago.

The Bucks played from behind most of the night and trailed by four with 2 1/2 minutes left when former Buck Mike Dunleavy hit a three-pointer that helped seal the deal for Chicago.  Dunleavy scored a season-high 18 points and his teammate Pau Gasol had a triple-double with 12 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists.

The Bucks shot just under 40-percent for the second straight game.  Jerryd Bayless led the way with 20 points.

Milwaukee has lost two straight and five of its last seven, while the Bulls ended 16 straight games of giving up 100 points or more.

Antetokounmpo suspended for 1 game

May 3, 2015 By Bill Scott

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was suspended for one game without pay by the NBA on Saturday for tackling Chicago Bull forward Mike Dunleavy.

Antetokounmpo was issued a flagrant foul 2 and ejected from the Bucks’ season-ending 120-66 playoff loss to the Bulls last Thursday.  It means Antetokounmpo will have to sit out the first game next season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

The NBA also said Dunleavy’s contact to Michael Carter-Williams’ jaw has been upgraded to a flagrant foul 1.

Antetokounmpo said, “It’s not going to happen again.  From the intensity of the game, the cheap shot, down 30, you know, you live, you learn.  It was a bad mistake by me.”

October 22, 2013 By Bill Scott

Derrick Rose poured in 24 points in 27 minutes, leading all five Bulls starters in double figures.  That list included former Bucks player Mike Dunleavy, who finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in 33 minutes.

The Bulls also crushed the Bucks in rebounding, 52-31.  Bucks starters had just 10 rebounds.

Gary Neal finished with 14 points to lead the Bucks.  Brandon Knight added 13, Larry Sanders 12 and John Henson with 11 points and a team high 8-rebounds.

Bucks cool off in 4th quarter, fall to Heat

April 24, 2013 By Bill Scott

After playing a good first half in the series opener on Sunday night in Miami, the Milwaukee Bucks stretched their solid play against the Heat to 3-quarters last night, then went on to lose 98-86 to go down 2-games to none in the best-of-7 series.

Dwyane Wade scored 21 points and Lebron James added 19 to lead the Heat.  Irsan Ilyasova had 21 and Mike Dunleavy added 16 in the loss.

In the opener on Sunday, it was Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis combining to score 48 points and they got little contribution from anybody else.  This time, it was everybody else doing the scoring, while two starting guards combined for only 15-points. [Read more…]

Bucks face Miami in game 2 tonight

April 23, 2013 By Bill Scott

If the Milwaukee Bucks have any chance of knocking off the Miami Heat tonight in game 2 of their best-of-7 series, they’re going to need more production from players other than Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis.

Jennings and Ellis combined to score 48 points in the series opening loss (110-87) on Sunday night.  The problem is, no other player scored more than 6 points and the rest of the team combined for just 39 points.

Mike Dunleavy and J.J. Redick are the two best scorers after Jennings and Ellis but they combined for 5 and 6 points respectively on Sunday night.  They’ll need to pick things up in game 2 tonight.

Ersan Ilyasova also needs to bring something to the party tonight.  Ilyasova scored just 2 points in the series opener.

Following tonight’s game, the Bucks return to the BMO Harris Bradley Center for games 3 and 4.

Bucks late season struggles continue

April 4, 2013 By Bill Scott

This is the time of year that teams are supposed to be cleaning up their act, getting

Jim Boylan

Jim Boylan

ready for the playoffs.  Watching the Milwaukee Bucks play and you’d have to wonder just what their agenda is all about.

Poor defense, sloppy offense, turnovers, you name it.  They all led to the Bucks 107-98 home court loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Minnesota has nothing to play for, yet they were playing like you’d like to see the Bucks playing down the stretch.

Point guard Ricky Rubio hit his first five 3-point shots and finished with 19 points, 12 assists and 8 steals. [Read more…]

Monta Ellis had 32 points and 9 assists to lead the Bucks.  Mike Dunleavy added 18 and J.J. Redick 17 for the Bucks (32-30), who lost for just the second time in the last eight games.

Dallas (30-33) won its season high fourth straight game.  Vince Carter hit three big 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to help keep the Bucks in check.  He finished with 23 to lead the Mavericks.

The Bucks hit the road tonight to face the Washington Wizards.  They’ll return to Milwaukee to host red-hot Miami on Friday night.

Bucks hold of late rally from Kings

March 11, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks built a 15-point fourth quarter lead and looked as if they would run away with an easy win.  That’s when the Kings fought back and almost pulled out a win in Sacramento.  Instead, the Bucks held on for a 115-113 victory, their 2nd straight win out west and their 6th win overall in the last 7 games.

Monta Ellis scored 29 points and dished out 9 assists, while Brandon Jennings and Mike Dunleavy added 16 points each.

The Bucks led 106-91 after Dunleavy buried a three with 3:48 remaining.  That’s when the King started their run.

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was ejected for a flagrant-2 foul on Dunleavy in the third quarter.  That hurt the Kings, who had gotten 24 points and 10 rebounds prior to his ejection.

The Bucks return to Milwaukee to host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.
