Gomez is NL co-player of the week

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez is the co-National League Player

of the Week. 

Gomez hit .346 with 4 home runs, 10 rbi’s, 10 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.  He’s taken over most of the playing time in center field for the Brewers.

Gomez shares the weekly honor with Cincinnati Reds outfielder Drew Stubbs.

Roster move

The Brewers called up right-handed pitcher Mike McClendon from AAA Nashville.  McClendon fills the roster spot vacated when Tyler Thornburg was sent back to Nashville Sunday. 

This is McClendon’s fourth stint with the Brewers this season.

Brewers face White Sox tonight

After an off day yesterday, the Milwaukee Brewers open a 3-game weekend series tonight in Chicago against the White Sox.

Zach Greinke (7-2, 3.10) faces Chicago lefty Chris Sale (8-2, 2.46).  As a member of the Kansas City Royals, Greinke is just 6-10 with a 4.23 ERA against the White Sox. 

Brewers recall McClendon

Infielder Brooks Conrad was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay on Thursday and reliever Mike McClendon was recalled from Triple (AAA) Nashville.  The Brewers needed to call up a reliever to help ou in their bullpen.

Brewers miss out on sweep of Houston

The Milwaukee Brewers had the brooms out, but there would be no sweep over the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon at Miller Park.

Houston pulled out a 7-5 win, ending a 11-game slide against the Brewers.

Ryan Braun, Travis Ishikawa and Corey Hart all homered for the Brewers, but Houston put together a 14-hit attack to pull out the victory.

Chris Snyder put the Astros in front for good at 5-4 with an RBI single in the seventh inning off of Jose Veras. [Read more…]
