Brewers fall to Twins in series finale

May 21, 2018 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee’s 10-game road trip ended in defeat on Sunday, but the trip was still a huge success.

Logan Morrison drove in the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning to lead the Twins to a 3-1 win over the Brewers in Minneapolis on Sunday.

Former Brewers prospect Jake Odorizzi struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one-run.  Reliever Addison Reed picked up the win and Fernando Rodney notched his 9th save as the Twins ended a three-game slide.

Brewers starter Junior Guerra tossed 4 1/3 innings of one run ball and Taylor Williams took the loss.

Jesus Aguilar provided the Brewers’ offense with a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Taylor Williams issued a leadoff walk in the eighth inning, then Logan Morrison singled off of Boone Logan to drive in the game winners.

The Brewers finished their longest trip of the season with a 7-3 record.  They’ll open a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight.  Chase Anderson (3-3, 3.97) will come off the disabled list to start for the Brewers.  Zach Greinke (3-2, 3.46) will get the nod for the Diamondbacks.

Molitor named AL Manager of the Year (AUDIO)

Former Milwaukee Brewer star and Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor was named the American League Manager of the Year on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old skipper orchestrated an impressive turnaround in Minnesota that saw the Twins jump from 59-103 and a fifth-place finish in the AL Central in 2016 to 85-77 and second in the division in 2017, including a berth in the postseason.

Minnesota became the first team in major league history to make the playoffs after losing 100-plus games the previous season.

It marks the third time a Twins skipper has won the award.  Tom Kelly won it in 1991 and Ron Gardenhire won in 2010.

Molitor is only the second Hall of Famer to be named Manager of the Year, joining Frank Robinson, who won the award with the Baltimore Orioles in 1989.

Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks won the National League award.  In his first full season as a big-league skipper, Arizona reached the playoffs a year after going 69-93.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell finished fourth in the National League balloting.

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped to 9-17 since the All-Star break, falling to the Minnesota Twins 7-2 on Thursday night at Miller Park.  The Twins swept the Brewers by winning two in Minneapolis and again taking two more in Milwaukee.  The Brewers have lost five straight and dropped into third place in the Central Division, behind the Chicago Cubs and the red hot Cardinals, who have won seven straight.

Zach Davies entered the game with a 0.94 earned run average in the last four games, allowing just three earned runs over a span of 28 2/3 innings.  Last night, He made it through 5 2/3 innings but allowed seven runs (six earned) on a career-high 11 hits and took the loss.

Keon Broxton clubbed his 16th home run of the season but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Brewers.

Minnesota shortstop Jorge Polanco entered the series hitting just .217.  In four games against the Brewers, Polanco went 10 for 15 with five rbi’s.

44-year-old Bartolo Colon blanks the Brewers

August 10, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers returned home to Miller Park, hoping they would be able to shake out of their offensive slump.  Instead, 44-year-old veteran Bartolo Colon tossed seven innings of shutout ball, handing the Brewers a 4-0 defeat.

The Brewers managed just five singles and six total base runners and suffered their fourth straight loss.

Ryan Braun and Orlando Arcia each singled twice in the loss.  The Brewers now have some company in second place.  They’re tied with the St. Louis Cardinals and trail the first place Cubs by a game and a half in the race for first place in the Central Division.

Rookie Brandon Woodruff suffered his first major league loss.  He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Twins added two more runs in the seventh against Jacob Barnes.  Joe Mauer sent a shot up the middle that deflected off of Eric Sogard’s glove, allowing Brian Dozier to score from second.  Miguel Sano’s double scored the games final run.

The Brewers will try to end their four-game slide and salvage one game against Minnesota when the two teams wrap up their series tonight.  Zach Davies (13-5, 4.18) pitches for the Brewers.  Minnesota goes with right-handed hurler Kyle Gibson (6-9, 6.03).  First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
