Fast start nets a Bucks victory

March 20, 2013 By Bill Scott

Perhaps the Milwaukee Bucks got the message when their head coach, Jim Boylan called them out following Sunday’s win against Orlando.  Boylan criticized his teams defensive play in a win over the Magic, saying his players had no interest in playing defense.

Fast-forward to last night, when the Bucks jumped out to a 58-31 halftime lead on the Portland Trailblazers and went on to win 102-95 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Bucks fall at Washington

March 14, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks can’t win without defense.  They showed that again last night with a 106-93 setback against the Washington Wizards.

The Bucks gave up 60 points in the first half and despite a second half resurgence, couldn’t climb all the way back in the loss.

John Wall scored 23 points and added 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals in the Wizards victory.

Monta Ellis had 26 points to lead the Bucks in defeat.

The Bucks are back home to host Miami at the Bradley Center on Friday night.  The Heat has won 20-straight games after beating Philadelphia 98-94 last night.  Miami is just one of four teams to win 20 or more consecutive games in a season.  The 70-71 Bucks also accomplished the feat.

Bucks miss opportunity to gain ground

March 13, 2013 By Bill Scott

Three teams in front of the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference standings lost on Tuesday night.  The Bucks failed to take advantage themselves, falling to the Dallas Mavericks 115-108 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Dallas (30-33) won its season high fourth straight game.  Vince Carter hit three big 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to help keep the Bucks in check.  He finished with 23 to lead the Mavericks.

The Bucks hit the road tonight to face the Washington Wizards.  They’ll return to Milwaukee to host red-hot Miami on Friday night.

Bucks hold of late rally from Kings

March 11, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks built a 15-point fourth quarter lead and looked as if they would run away with an easy win.  That’s when the Kings fought back and almost pulled out a win in Sacramento.  Instead, the Bucks held on for a 115-113 victory, their 2nd straight win out west and their 6th win overall in the last 7 games.

Monta Ellis scored 29 points and dished out 9 assists, while Brandon Jennings and Mike Dunleavy added 16 points each.

The Bucks led 106-91 after Dunleavy buried a three with 3:48 remaining.  That’s when the King started their run.

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was ejected for a flagrant-2 foul on Dunleavy in the third quarter.  That hurt the Kings, who had gotten 24 points and 10 rebounds prior to his ejection.

The Bucks return to Milwaukee to host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.

Bucks acquire Magic guard J.J. Redick

February 21, 2013 By Bill Scott

Looking to end a slide that has seen the Milwaukee Bucks drop 8 of their last 10 games, they have acquired Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick right at the trade line today (Thursday).

According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Bucks are sending Beno Udrih, Tobias Harris and Doron Lamb to the Magic and are also acquiring 6’10 forward Gustavo Ayon and 6-0 guard Ish Smith.

The former Duke standout is averaging a career high 15.1 points a game for the Magic this season, but he’s in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Udrih was the top backup in the backcourt for the Bucks, but he has cooled off of late.  Has was a starter at the beginning of the season but quickly fell out of favor.  Lamb hadn’t been in the playing rotation and was sent to the D-League a couple of times. [Read more…]

Bucks fall to Nets, again!

February 21, 2013 By Bill Scott

It was one thing for the Milwaukee Bucks to fall in overtime on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, but to return to the BMO Harris Bradley Center and lose to the Nets again last night is a major disappointment.

The Bucks controlled play for the first three-quarters and led by 8-points after three-quarters.  They then proceeded to his just 2 of their first 17 shots in the 4th quarter and fell to the Nets 97-94.

AUDIO: Coach Jim Boylan on the 4th quarter :18

The Bucks twice pulled to within 2 points in the final half-minute and had a chance to tie when Monta Ellis was fouled on a three-point attempt with 2.4 seconds left and Brooklyn ahead by three. [Read more…]
