It’s been a while since the Wisconsin Badgers have played a game under the lights at Camp Randall Stadium.  Five years as a matter of fact.

That has changed this season with the Badgers set to play both Ohio State and Nebraska in prime time.  The Badgers will host the Buckeyes on October 15 (7 p.m. CT) and the Huskers will make the trip to Madison and will kick off with the Badgers on October 29 (6 p.m. CT).  Both games will air on an ESPN network yet to be determined.

The ESPN announcement of its prime time lineup brings conference night games back to Camp Randall for the first time since 2011.  That’s when Wisconsin rolled to a 48-17 win over Nebraska in the Huskers first-ever Big Ten game.

The Badgers also knocked off top-ranked Ohio State 31-18 under the lights in 2010.

The Badgers are 12-4 all-time in night games at Camp Randall, including a mark of 6-3 against Big Ten opponents.

Wisconsin & Nebraska playing for Freedom Trophy

November 11, 2014 By Bill Scott

Freedom Trophy WISWhen Wisconsin and Nebraska hook up on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, they’ll not only be playing for the Big Ten’s West Division lead, but for the Freedom Trophy as well.

The trophy will be on the line for the first time this weekend, bringing recognition to two historic football venues and it honors our nation’s veterans.

The Freedom Trophy, designed and sculpted by Harry Weber of Wright City, Missouri, features a bronze football stadium with an American flag extending from the Center.  One half of the outside of the stadium depicts the North section of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium (built in 1917) and the other half the East side of Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium (1923).

The Badgers and Cornhuskers will now play each other every year as members of the West Division.

Since 1901, Wisconsin and Nebraska have met a total of eight times on the football field with each school winning four games.

Badgers drop season finale at Nebraska (VIDEO)

March 10, 2014 By Bill Scott

The 9th ranked Wisconsin Badgers dropped their Big Ten season finale at Nebraska, falling 77-68 to the Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln on Sunday night.

Frank Kaminsky scored 14 points to lead four Wisconsin players in double figures, but the Badgers didn’t shoot well.  They hit just 34% from the field in the second half, coughing up a 7-point lead.

The Badgers didn’t help themselves at the free throw line, hitting just 11 of 21 as a team.  They also turned the ball over 11 times and couldn’t stop Nebraska’s ball penetration.

It all ended up in the Badgers seeing their 8-game win streak come to an end.

The Badgers had already secured the second seed in the Big Ten Conference earlier in the day when Michigan State lost to Ohio State in Columbus. [Read more…]
