Packers season comes to an end in NFC Championship

January 25, 2021 By Bill Scott

After working all season to secure a first round playoff bye and home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, the Green Bay Packers season came to an end in the NFC Championship game, falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-26 on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Tom Brady threw for 280 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions and will play in his 10th Super Bowl in two weeks, this time on his own home field in Tampa.  Brady will be in search of his seventh Super Bowl title.  To get there, the Bucs had to beat three division winners, including the Packers on Sunday.

The Buccaneers (14-5) will face the Kansas City Chiefs (16-2) on Feb. 7 in Super Bowl 55.  No team has ever played in a Super Bowl on their own home field before.

The Packers (14-4) picked a bad time to play their worst game of the season, seeing their seven-game winning streak come to an end. [Read more…]

Packers routed by 49ers for second time this season

January 20, 2020 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers knew San Francisco wanted to run the football, but they offered little in terms of stopping or even slowing the 49ers down.  The result was another lopsided contest between the two teams this season.

In November, the Packers fell behind 23-0 at halftime and went on to lose 37-8 at Levi Stadium.  On Sunday, the Packers fell behind 27-0 at halftime and lost 37-20 in the NFC Championship game.

The 49ers ran just 50 total plays from scrimmage and 42 of the 50 were running plays.  When asked why he kept calling run plays, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said because it kept working.

The Niners racked up 285 yards on the ground.  Raheem Mostert finished with 29 carries for 220 yards and four touchdowns.  They only needed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to hand off.  He finished 6 of 8 through the air, for 77 yards.

The Packers struggled to get their offense going in the first half, totaling 51 yards rushing and 65 passing.  It wasn’t until the second half, that Aaron Rodgers would start to move the offense.  He finished [Read more…]

Matthews healthy again, ready for another season

April 19, 2017 By Bill Scott

Clay Matthews

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews had his share of bad luck last season.  Multiple injuries saw the former USC product struggle to put up any kind of numbers, finishing 13th on the team in tackles with 24.  He posted a career low in sacks with five.

Matthews missed four games with injury and was severely limited in several others with shoulder, hamstring and ankle injuries.

To give you an idea what kind of shape the Packers were in, one only has to look at Jordy Nelson, who finished the season with fractured ribs.  He told reporters on Tuesday that he’s not sure how the Packers would have been able to get ready for the Super Bowl, had they beat Atlanta in the NFC Championship game.

Once the season ended, several players welcomed the time off to heal. [Read more…]

Packers magical run comes to a crashing halt

January 23, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers were one step away from a trip to Super Bowl 51.  They had the momentum of eight straight wins, but the Atlanta Falcons made sure the momentum came to a screeching halt.

The Packers won the toss but deferred.  That allowed the Falcons to take the opening possession and drive the length of the field for an opening touchdown.  By the time the first half was over, the Packers trailed 24-0, on the way to a 44-21 loss in the final game at the Georgia Dome, which is not set for demolition.

Matt Ryan threw for 392 yards and four touchdowns.  He also added a 14-yard run for a touchdown, his first rushing touchdown since 2012.

Wide receiver Julio Jones, after barely practicing during the week because of a toe injury, finished with nine catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. [Read more…]

Packers preparing for the offseason (Video)

January 20, 2015 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers fans are still dealing with a hangover from Sunday’s 28-22 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks.  Instead of playing in Super Bowl 49, the Packers will be planning for the offseason, free agency, the scouting combine and the draft.

Fans are blaming Brandon Bostick for the loss, but there’s so many different things that led to Sunday’s defeat, despite the fact that the Packers outplayed Seattle for most of the game.

Packers Nation shocked with OT loss in Seattle (AUDIO)

Sunday’s 28-22 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks is clearly one of the worst playoff losses in Green Bay Packers history.  It may not top the list, but it’s close.

The Packers dominated play for most of the game, but left the door open just enough for the Seahawks to pull off a 12-point comeback in the final two minutes to force overtime and eventually pull out the win.

While the Packers were busy crushing the spirits of the Seahawks, they were missing opportunities to put the Seahawks away.  They settled for field goals instead of scoring touchdowns early on, yet still led 16-0 at halftime and 19-7 with just under four minutes to play.

Seattle fans were starting to slowly trickle towards the exits, only to miss a comeback of the ages.

Nothing went right for Russell Wilson until the fourth quarter.  He had thrown four interceptions as the Seahawks offense was suffocating against the Packers defense.  [Read more…]
