Packers defense saves the day in win over Seahawks (AUDIO)

September 11, 2017 By Bill Scott

Mike Daniels with one of his biggest days as a pro.

The game was dominated by defense early, but the Green Bay Packers eventually wore Seattle down and knocked off the Seahawks 17-9 in the season opener at Lambeau Field.

The Packers had a nearly 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession (39:13 to 20:47) as they closed out the victory in the final quarter.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers started show and tossed an interception in the first half, ending a streak of 251 straight passes without one, which was a career high.  Rodgers would finish by completing 28 of 42 for 311 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

His only scoring strike came when the Seahawks were late getting a 12th player off the field and as usual, the Packers took advantage.  Rodgers looked to the sideline, saw the flag come out and then found Jordy Nelson down the middle for a 32 yard scoring strike.

Earlier in the game, Nelson became the fourth receiver in Packers franchise history to reach 500 career receptions.  He joined the elite company of Donald Driver, Sterling Sharpe and James Lofton.  [Read more…]

Bulaga still sidelined by ankle injury

September 5, 2017 By Bill Scott

Bryan Bulaga

The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field on Monday and will take Tuesday off.  The players returned from their weekend off in pretty good shape.

The only previously injured player that didn’t practice was right tackle Bryan Bulaga, who is still recovering from a sprained right ankle.  Coach Mike McCarthy did say last week that he didn’t have any major concern regarding Bulaga’s availability for the season opener against Seattle this Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Rookie defensive tackle Montravius Adams returned for the first time since undergoing foot surgery the first week of training camp.  Adams took part in individual drills but not team drills and it’s expected to be weeks before he’s ready to play in a game.

Also back on the practice field Monday were linebackers Nick Perry and Clay Matthews, offensive lineman Lucas Patrick and safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

Packers to host free agent Brooks today

August 29, 2017 By Bill Scott

Kyler Fackrell

The Green Bay Packers are expected to host free-agent outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks today.  The decision to bring in a veteran is a clear sign that the Packers aren’t happy with the current level of production beyond Clay Matthews and Nick Perry.

The Packers let Julius Peppers and Datone Jones get away in free agency, ready to give Jayrone Elliott and Kyler Fackrell more of an opportunity.

Through three preseason games, Elliott and Fackrell have combined for five tackles and no sacks.

The Packers haven’t been able to stay healthy as well.  Matthews dropped out early on Saturday with an undisclosed injury and Perry later left with an ankle injury.

Elliott has had to deal with back spasms the last couple of weeks and he had to leave Saturday’s game at Denver early.

The Packers also haven’t been able to get former Badger Vince Biegel on the field.  The fourth round pick hasn’t practiced since rookie orientation in May when he broke a bone in his foot.  After surgery, he’s been rehabbing, trying to get back, but its an injury that requires a tremendous amount of patience.  Biegel is currently on the PUP list and could remain there through the first six weeks of the season.

Packers nearing deal with Perry

March 9, 2017 By Bill Scott

Nick Perry takes a break during Training Camp!

The Green Bay Packers are working out final details, but they’re expected to have a deal with former first round draft pick Nick Perry before the official start of free agency at 3pm Thursday afternoon.

The 26-year-old Perry had been hit with injuries throughout much of his career, but last season he proved he was beyond that.  The Packers outside linebacker missed just two games with a broken hand and played the rest of the season with a club cast on his hand.  He missed only five games over the last three seasons after playing in just 17 of the first 32.

Perry played under a 1-year, $5 million deal last season and registered a team-high 12 sacks, including playoffs.

It was important for the Packers to get a deal done with their top pass rusher before he hit the open market and that’s exactly what they did.

Packers host Vikings today

December 24, 2016 By Bill Scott

Fans shoveled Lambeau Field on Thursday, only to see another snowstorm hit Green Bay overnight, meaning fans will deal with snow in the stands today.

The Minnesota Vikings flight to Appleton was roughly an hour.  It took them another three hours to get off the plane after they slid off  the taxiway.

Their plane landed safety during a snowstorm on Friday and was taxiing to the gate shortly after 5 p.m. when a wheel slid off the taxiway.  The team didn’t get off the plane until around 8:20 p.m.

Who’s out?

Minnesota Pro Bowl safety Harrison Smith was a full participant during practice on Friday and there’s a chance he could be ready to play against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Saturday.  He is listed as questionable on the teams final injury report. [Read more…]

Clay Matthews expects to return to Packers lineup Sunday (AUDIO)

November 4, 2016 By Bill Scott

Clay Matthews

Clay Matthews

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews says his hamstring has improved and feels there’s a good chance he will play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field.

Matthews took team reps in practice on Thursday.

Last Sunday’s game in Atlanta was the second game that Matthews missed this season.  He was also absent for the week three game against the Detroit Lions.  Without him on Sunday, the Packers managed just two quarterback sacks in the one-point loss to Atlanta.

The Colts have the worst offensive line in football entering this week, having allowed a league leading 31 quarterback sacks.  Certainly that could be some incentive for Matthews to try to play this season. [Read more…]

Packers offense comes to life in win over Detroit

September 26, 2016 By Bill Scott

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers

After weeks of offensive struggles, the Green Bay Packers came to life on Sunday, beating division foe Detroit 34-27 in the home opener at Lambeau Field.

The Lions were missing top defensive players Ziggy Ansah and DeAndre Levy and the Packers showed no mercy, putting 31-points on the board in the first half and taking a 31-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It was the offense that Packers fans are used to seeing.  Aaron Rodgers tossed four touchdown passes in the first half for the second time in his career, two of the four to Jordy Nelson.  Rodgers ended up completing 15 of 24 passes for the game, finishing with a 129.3 passer rating.  He ended a string of 14 consecutive games without a passer rating of 100 or more. Perry to miss time with shoulder injury

October 14, 2015 By Bill Scott

Packers logoThe Green Bay Packers won’t have outside linebacker Nick Perry for this Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.

Perry suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder in Sunday’s win over the Rams.  Perry won’t need surgery, but he is expected to miss two to four weeks.

With a bye week coming after Sunday’s game against San Diego, it is possible that Perry might only have to miss one week of playing time.

The often-injured Perry has played in every game to this point and is having his best season to date.  He has registered 13 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and forced a fumble.

Perry has missed 16 of 53 career regular season games with shoulder, knee and foot injuries.

The Packers return to the practice field this afternoon and coach Mike McCarthy, at his Wednesday morning press conference said besides Perry, all of the other injured players were going to try to do something today.

Packers win, but the streak is over

The Green Bay Packers went head-to-head with one of the top defensive fronts in the NFL and won, pulling out a 24-10 victory over the St. Louis Rams at Lambeau Field.

The Packers defense gave up 159 rushing yards to Todd Gurley, but they held Nick Foles to just 141 yards passing, completing just 11 of 30 passes.  Foles was held to one touchdown and the Packers secondary picked him off four times.

Two of those interceptions came from rookie Quinten Rollins, the first of which was returned 45 yards for a touchdown, giving the Packers a 14-0 lead.

The defense continues to stand out, sacking Foles three times, but getting 12 more hits on the [Read more…]

Neal returns to Packers Training Camp

August 11, 2015 By Bill Scott

Mike Neal

Mike Neal

Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Mike Neal is practicing for the first time this season, finally returning from sports hernia surgery.  Neal was removed from the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday.

Neal was limited to individual drills and lighter work on a scout team.

Neal says his hernia flared up in each of the last three years, and it was especially tough to play through it in 2013.  He’s had surgery before, but he hopes his problems are gone for good after having noted Philadelphia surgeon William Meyers handle the procedure this time.

Neal hasn’t missed any games the past two seasons, after missing 20 his previous three seasons with various issues.
