Brewers trade Aoki to Kansas City (Update-Video)

December 5, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired left-handed pitcher Will Smith from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for outfielder Norichika Aoki.

Smith is a 24-year-old left hander who is 8-10 with a 4.76 ERA in 35 games (17 starts) over the past two seasons.  As a starter, Smith is 6-10 with a 5.48 ERA.  He’s 2-0 as a reliever with a 2.45 ERA.

Aoki, who turns 32 on January 5, hit .287 with 18 HR, 87 RBI and 50 stolen bases in 306 games during his two seasons with the Brewers.

Aoki’s departure opens up right field, presumably for Ryan Braun.  General Manager Doug Melvin said they’ve already discussed the possibility of a move with Braun, as they try to open up left field for Khris Davis.  Davis came on strong last season after Braun was suspended for the final 65 games.

Here’s video of Will Smith in a game for the Royals earlier this season from MLB.com.

Brewers end home slate with a win

September 23, 2013 By Bill Scott

Jim Henderson struck out Matt Adams with two runners on and two out in the 9th inning last night to pitch the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the home finale at Miller Park last night.

It was Adams who clubbed a 2-run homer off of Henderson in the ninth inning on Friday to snap a 4-4 tie and give the Cardinals a win in 10-innings.

The Brewers finished 37-44 at home this season.  The Cardinals finished 14-5 against the Brewers this season.

Norihika Aoki doubled home a run and scored three times for the Brewers.  Wily Peralta gave up five hits and walked five in five-plus innings for the Brewers.

The Cardinals had learned earlier in the day that they clinched at least a spot in the post-season playoffs.  They hold a 2-game lead on both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh atop the NL Central with a week left in the regular season.

Brewers drop opener to the Padres

July 23, 2013 By Bill Scott

In the midst of all the reaction to Ryan Braun’s suspension, the Brewers still had a game Monday night.  The result was also not good for Milwaukee.  The Brewers opened their four game series with San Diego falling 5-3 to the Padres at Miller Park.  The loss snapped Milwaukee’s four game winning streak.

Tom Grozelanny was solid up until the 6th inning.  He surrendered 4-runs in the frame squandering Milwaukee’s 3-1 lead.  He finished allowing 5-runs on 5-hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.  Padres pitching allowed just 4-hits on the night.  Starter Andrew Cashner gave up 3 of them while allowing the 3-runs in 6-innings.

Nori Aoki had a pair of hits to lead the Brewers offense while Jean Segura drove in a pair of runs on the night.

The Brewers and Padres meet again tonight for game 2 of the series.  Donovan Hand (0-1, 3.27 ERA) takes on Tyson Ross (0-4, 3.60 ERA) for a 7:10 first pitch.

Brewers win back-to-back games for the first time in 2013 (Audio)

April 17, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers used an 8-run 3rd inning to propel them to a 10-8 win over the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night at Miller Park.  The victory marked the first time this season Milwaukee put together back-to-back victories.

Trailing 3-1 in the 3rd, Milwaukee was able to chase San Francisco starter Barry Zito with an 8-spot.  Rickie Weeks tied the game at 3-3 with a ground rule double.  Jonathan Lucroy then slapped a single up the middle to drive in a pair giving Milwaukee a 5-3 advantage.  Yuniesky Betancourt later cleared the bases with a grand slam, his first long ball of the season and fifth grand slam of his career. Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke will take the big frame…
