Giannis returns, Bucks beat Magic

January 12, 2021 By Bill Scott

Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to the Bucks lineup after missing one game with a back injury and scored 22 points in Milwaukee’s 121-99 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday night in Orlando.

Antetokounmpo dealt with second half foul trouble, but the Bucks pulled away in the fourth quarter without him to win their second straight overall and fifth straight non-playoff game against the Magic.  The Bucks used a 37-12 run to close out the game.

Khris Middleton had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Bobby Portis came off the bench to score a season high 20 points (9 of 13 FG).

Nikola Vucevic had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Magic.  Aaron Gordon added 21 points and eight assists in the loss.

The Bucks also got 14 points from Bryn Forbes, who hit three 3’s for the Bucks.  Milwaukee finished the game shooting 50% from the field.

The Bucks are off on Tuesday and return to action Wednesday night in Detroit against the Pistons.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 119-104 win over the Orlando Magic, closing out their Eastern Conference first round playoff series in five games.

Khris Middleton added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Bucks, who saw their 21-point fourth quarter lead trimmed to three before taking control from there.

The Milwaukee Bucks needed a strong fourth quarter from Khris Middleton to pull away and knock off the Orlando Magic 121-106 in game 4 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff series.

Middleton, who had hit just 1 of 9 from the field for three points in the first three quarters, poured in 18 in the fourth quarter to finish with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  The Bucks are hoping that is the end of Middleton’s shooting slump in these playoffs.

Giannis Antetokounp was his normal self, scoring 31 points with 15 rebounds and eight assists.  Wes Matthews also hit 4 of 6 from distance and finished with 12 points.

The Magic stayed close by getting hot from distance.  They hit 18 triples and converted 40% on the night.  Nikola Vucevic had 31 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to continue his strong play.

The Bucks can wrap up the series with a win in game five on Wednesday.  The winner of the series faces the Miami Heat in round two.

Giannis Antetokounmpo hit all eight of his field goal attempts in the first half and finished with 35 points on 12 of 14 shooting.  Giannis added 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Bucks respond with playoff win against Orlando

August 21, 2020 By Bill Scott

After suffering an embarrassing game one defeat on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Bucks rebounded with a 111-96 win over the Orlando Magic to even their best-of-seven opening round series at a game apiece.

After failing to find their way defensively for most of the eight seeding games and the game one playoff loss, the Bucks became the aggressor, holding the Magic to just 13 first quarter points.

The Bucks offense was a little slow to start, but their defensive play allowed them to warm up and maintain a lead while doing so.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points and 20 rebounds to lead the way.  Brook Lopez added 20 points and Pat Connaughton came through with a strong effort off the bench, scoring 15 points and adding 11 rebounds.  All 15 points came on three-pointers for Connaughton.

The Magic made a push in the third when Nikola Vucevic made all six of his shots in the quarter, on the way to a 32-point, 10 rebound night.  Orlando cut the Bucks lead to 12 before the Bucks responded and widened the gap.

Orlando once again cut into the Bucks lead, making it a single-digit game late in the fourth quarter.  But the Bucks responded with a couple of Giannis Antetokounmpo dunks and then a pair of Brook Lopez three’s to seal the victory.

Bucks forward Khris Middleton struggled in the opener and things didn’t change in game two.  Middleton made just one of his eight field goals for two points.

The Bucks defense held Orlando to 34.8% from the field and 21.2% (7 of 33) from three-point range.

The Bucks and Magic play game three in the bubble on Saturday.

Bucks stumble out of the gates, drop playoff opener (AUDIO)

August 19, 2020 By Bill Scott

After finishing the NBA’s seeding games with a 3-5 record, the Milwaukee Bucks picked up where they left off, dropping their playoff opener to the shorthanded Orlando Magic 122-110 inside the Orlando bubble.

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 31 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists and George Hill added 16 points off the bench, but the Magic turned 16 Bucks turnovers into 25 points.

Orlando’s Nikola Vocevic dominated with 35 points and 14 rebounds, hitting 15 of 24 from the field.  Terrance Ross added 18 points for the Magic.

Orlando packed the paint and invited the Bucks to beat them from distance.  Khris Middleton had just 14 points on 4 of 12 [Read more…]

Bucks improve to 6-0 with win over Orlando

October 28, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks ran their record to 6-0 to start the season, knocking off the Orlando Magic 113-91.  The Bucks start is their best since the 1971-’72 season when they won their first seven games.

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo took a hard fall in the first quarter and spent some time in the locker room before returning to the game.  He finished with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting.

Donte DiVincenzo finished with a career high 15 points.  Khris Middleton had 18 points, Malcolm Brogdon had 16 and Brook Lopez 11.

It was the second game of a back-to-back night set, having beaten Minnesota 125-95 the night before.

The Bucks, who lead the NBA in three pointers made and attempted, hit 10 of 30 from beyond the arc against the Magic.

The Bucks return to Fiserv Forum on Monday night when they take on the other undefeated NBA team, the Toronto Raptors.

Bucks send Magic to sixth straight loss

January 11, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Orlando Magic dropped their 6th straight, 110-103 to the Milwaukee Bucks at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 26 points and Khris Middleton added 22 to lead the way.  But all five Bucks starters scored in double figures.  Eric Bledsoe had 15 points, while John Henson and Malcolm Brogdon had 14 each.  Henson also pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked two shots in the win.

The Bucks did struggle from beyond the arc, hitting just 4 of 19 from three (21.1%).  That will need to improve if the Bucks are going to knock off their next opponent, the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at the Bradley Center.

The Bucks improved to 22-18 with the win.  The Magic fell to 12-30.

Parker getting close to a return

Bucks coach Jason Kidd said forward Jabari Parker is doing great and could return to the lineup in another month, before the NBA all-star break.

Parker underwent ACL surgery on Feb. 14, 2017.

Hammond leaving Milwaukee for GM post in Orlando

May 24, 2017 By Bill Scott

John Hammond

Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond is leaving his job in Milwaukee to take the GM post with the Orlando Magic.

Hammond gets a five-year deal with the Magic and joins former co-worker Jeff Weltman in Orlando.  The two worked together in Detroit for a year before Hammond took the job in Milwaukee and brought Weltman with him as his assistant general manager.

Hammond had one year left on his contract in Milwaukee, but a plan was already in place for that to be his final year.  Had he not accepted the job in Orlando, it was expected that Hammond would have finished out the next year, then moved into a consulting role.  Assistant general manager Justin Zanik would move into the general manager position.  Zanik was brought in last summer as the heir apparent to Hammond.
