Badgers do little in loss at Penn State

November 11, 2018 By Bill Scott

Paul Chryst

The Wisconsin Badgers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when Jonathan Taylor cruised 71 yards for a touchdown.  That for the most part was the only big highlight for the day as the Penn State rebounded for a 22-10 win in State College, PA.

The Badgers (6-4, 4-3 Big Ten) has lost four games in a season for the first time in Paul Chryst’s four seasons and they may not be done yet.

The Badgers West Division title hopes are gone with the loss.  Northwestern’s 14-10 win at Iowa gave the title to the Wildcats, who will battle either Michigan or Ohio State for the Big Ten title.

The Nittany Lions (7-3, 4-3) won their fourth straight in the series.  Trace McSorely, playing on a bad knee, completed 19 of 25 for 160 yards and a touchdown.  Miles Sanders rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for Penn State.

Jonathan Taylor finished with 185 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, but the Badgers managed to convert just 4 of 15 third downs, which is a growing problem for UW. [Read more…]

Badgers rebound to win at Penn State

December 5, 2017 By Bill Scott

Khalil Iverson

After suffering an embarrassing 83-58 loss to Ohio State on Saturday at the Kohl Center, the Wisconsin Badgers took to the road and pulled out a 64-63 victory over Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania.

The Badgers built a 17-point lead in the second half, but had to survive a Penn State second half comeback, which saw Tony Carr miss a three-pointer in the final seconds that would have won it for the Nittany Lions.

Khalil Iverson, who went scoreless in the loss to Ohio State on Saturday, led the Badgers with 16 points and five rebounds on Monday night.

Freshman Nate Reuvers came off the bench with Ethan Happ in foul trouble and added 11 points and four rebounds for the Badgers (4-5, 1-1 Big Ten).  Happ fouled out with 14.7 seconds left to play, finishing with nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Brad Davison didn’t score and fouled out with 43 seconds left.

Mike Watkins led Penn State (7-3, 1-1) with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks.  Carr added 16 points.

The Nittany Lions hit 12 of 23 three-pointers in a win over Iowa on Saturday but made just 2 of 14 from distance against the Badgers.

The Badgers are in Philadelphia to face Temple on Wednesday night.

Hockey Badgers move back into first place in the Big Ten

March 4, 2017 By Bill Scott

Ryan Wagner

The Wisconsin Badgers moved back into a first place tie with Minnesota atop the Big Ten Conference after rolling to a 7-4 win over Penn State on Friday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Six different players scored goals for the Badgers (19-11-1, 12-5-0-0 Big Ten), led by Ryan Wagner, who scored the final two goals to seal it for Wisconsin.  His second tally was an empty-net goal.

The Badgers are now tied with Minnesota, after the Gophers fell to Michigan 5-3 on Friday night.

Jack Berry earned the win in goal, finishing with 34 saves on 38 shots.

The Badgers and Nittany Lions close out their two-game series tonight.  If Wisconsin can secure at least one point, they will clinch a top-two spot and a bye in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

With Ohio State’s loss to Michigan State on Friday night, the Badgers can finish no lower than third place in the standings.

Following tonight’s series finale, the Badgers return to Madison for their final series of the regular season, hosting Ohio State at the Kohl Center.
