Strong second half leads Bucks past Sixers

February 7, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Philadelphia 76ers strong three-point shooting kept the game close, but a strong second half by the Bucks cemented their 44th (44-7) victory of the season, 112-101 on Thursday night at Fiserv Forum.

Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 36 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to lead the Bucks to their 12th win in the last 13 games.  Khris Middleton added 20 points with 16 of those 20 coming in the second half.

Thursday’s game is the fifth in a row in which Antetokounmpo has scored at least 30 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out at least five assists.  The last time that has happened was 1965 by Wilt Chamberlain.

The Bucks used a 14-0 run in the 3rd quarter that would give them a lead they would never give up the rest of the night.

Tobias Harris led the 76ers with 25 points, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers, but Joel Embiid struggled, scoring 19 points, hitting just 6 of 26 from the field and 3 of 10 on three-point attempts.

Philadelphia shot 42.2% from three-point range, but the Bucks refused to give up much in the paint as the 76ers shot just 33% on two-point attempts.

The Bucks are off on Friday and face the Orlando Magic in Orlando on Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.).

Bucks have no answer for Embiid in loss to Sixers

December 26, 2019 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks found nothing but a lump of coal in their stockings after a 121-109 loss to the 76ers in Philadelphia on Christmas Day.

Philadelphia led by as many as 29 points and held Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in check for the most part, holding him to 18 points.  Giannis did pull down 14 rebounds and dish out seven assists in the loss.  But he hit just 8 of 27 from the field, including an 0-for-7 mark beyond the three point line.

The Bucks had little answer for Sixers big man Joel Embiid, who poured in 31 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Embiid hit 3-of-5 from three-point range in the first half to bring his overall total to 23 points at halftime.

The Bucks did make it interesting late as Khris Middleton caught fire.  He hit five of his seven fourth quarter shots, to finish with 13 in the quarter and 31 points for the game.

The 76ers (23-10) have won three straight now.  The Bucks (27-5) still own the best record in the NBA with the Lakers losing to the Clippers later in the day.

It’s on to Atlanta for the Bucks, who will face the Hawks on Friday night.

Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 45 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 128-122 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, locking up the top spot in the Eastern Conference and the overall top seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Antetokounmpo reached 25 or more points and 10 or more rebounds in a game for the 42nd time this season.  He also blocked five shots in Thursday nights win.

Khris Middleton added 22 points and George Hill had 20 for the Bucks.  The Bucks needed a big game from Hill after point guard Eric Bledsoe was ejected from the game in the opening minutes after firing a ball at Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid.

Embiid returned to the 76ers lineup after missing the last three games and tallied a triple-double, 34 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. [Read more…]

Bucks down Bulls, Prunty off to 3-0 start

January 29, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks knocked off the rival Chicago Bulls 110-96 on Sunday in Chicago, which means Joe Prunty is off to a 3-0 start as the Interim Head Coach of the Bucks.

Prunty shoots for his fourth straight victory tonight when the Bucks host the Philadelphia 76ers at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Bucks got off to a slow start on Sunday , but veteran Jason Terry came off the bench to add three straight three-point baskets late in the first quarter into the second quarter.  He finished 4-of-6 beyond the arc for a season-high 12 points.  Terry entered the game just 2-of-18 from three-point range on the season.

From that point, the Bucks increased their lead and went into the locker room at halftime with a 61-42 lead.

Giannis Antetokounmpo got hot in the second half and finished with 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Bucks.

The Bucks played their second straight game without Malcolm Brogdon, who is sidelined with right calf soreness.

Rookie Sterling Brown, who grew up just a short drive from the United Center, had 12 points and six rebounds.

The Bucks lost at Philadelphia on Jan. 20, 116-94 when they were without both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Malcolm Brogdon.

Bucks in Philly Wednesday (AUDIO)

March 27, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks (34-35) can take a big step tonight towards locking up their first playoff birth since the 2009-2010 season.  Milwaukee is on the road to take on the Philadelphia 76ers (27-43).

The Bucks lead the 76ers by 7 1/2 games for the final playoff spot in the east.  The magic number sits at five for Milwaukee (Bucks wins and Philly losses), so a win tonight would bring that down to three.  Milwaukee has already clinched the season series with Philadelphia by winning all three of the previous games this season.  Despite the big lead, Bucks PG Brandon Jennings isn’t expecting the 76ers to lay down…
