Brewers battle Cubs to get out of last place

May 11, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers return to action tonight at Miller Park.  They’ll host

Randy Wolf

the Chicago Cubs in a battle to get out of the NL Central basement.

Both teams enter with 13-18 records, a full 7-games behind the front running St. Louis Cardinals.  Matt Garza (2-1, 2.67) pitches for the Cubs tonight.  Randy Wolf (2-3, 6.68) gets the start for the Brewers.

Tonight’s series opener marks the return to Miller Park by Dale Sveum, in his first year as the manager of the Cubs.

The Brewers are 7-8 at home this season.  In 2011, they didn’t lose their 8th game until June 7.

Braun has a night to remember

May 1, 2012 By Bill Scott

Ryan Braun hit three home runs and added a 2-run triple in his final at bat,

Ryan Braun

leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

AUDIO: Ryan Braun says this is a special game :11

Braun was retired his first time up, then homered in the 4th, 5th and 7th innings before stepping to the plate again in the 9th.  Attempting to tie the record for most home runs in a game, Braun ripped a shot to right center and settled in with a triple.

The last player to hit 3-home runs and a triple in the same game was Fred Lynn back in 1975.

Braun tied a career high with 6 rbi’s.

Randy Wolf worked 5 innings for his second straight victory.  Game 2 of the series is tonight.

Brewers grab series opener from Astros

April 24, 2012 By Bill Scott

Offense has been hard to come by for the Milwaukee Brewers early this season, but the Brewers finally got out to a quick start in their 6-5 win over the Houston Astros at Miller Park on Monday night.

The Brewers scored three runs in the first inning off of Houston right-hander Lucas Harrell.  The last time the Brewers scored in the first inning was back on April 10 in Chicago.

Dodgers avoid sweep, edge Brewers

April 19, 2012 By Bill Scott

Matt Kemp clubbed his 7th home run of the season and the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a 3-game sweep by beating the Milwaukee

Randy Wolf

Brewers 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at Miller Park.

Jerry Hairston Jr. made a pair of big late defensive plays and Javy Guerra pitched a scoreless ninth, his 6th save in 7 chances this season to help preserve the victory.

Ryan Braun went hitless for the Brewers and finished 0 for 11 in the series.  He struck out in his final two at-bats today.

Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez is starting to slowly heat up.  After clubbing his first Brewers home run on Wednesday night, he had two more hits on Thursday.  Travis Ishikawa also had two hits and two rbi’s.

Lefty Randy Wolf (0-2) went 6-innings and allowed 4-runs on 7-hits in taking the loss.  Dodger starter Aaron Harang (1-1) also worked 6-innings, allowing 3-runs on 8-hits with a walk and 4-strikeouts to pick up the win.

The Brewers continue their home stand Friday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Greinke leads Brewers to another home win

April 19, 2012 By Bill Scott

When Zach Greinke takes the mound at Miller Park, a victory for the

Zach Greinke

Milwaukee Brewers is a sure thing.

The Brewers knocked off the Dodgers 3-2 in 10-innings last night.  The Brewers have captured the first two games in the series to cool off the Dodgers.

Greinke wasn’t around for the decision.  The win went to Kameron Loe out of the bullpen.  But Greinke pitched 7-solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking only 2.

How good has Greinke been at home for the Brewers?  Since coming to Milwaukee, the Brewers are now 17-0 when Greinke starts a game at Miller Park. [Read more…]

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Brewers

April 9, 2012 By Bill Scott

The St. Louis Cardinals don’t have Tony LaRussa as their manager and

Ron Roenicke

their top hitter from years past, Albert Pujols.  But the Cardinals looked just as solid as ever, rolling to a 9-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, grabbing 2 of 3 in the series.

St. Louis once again looked like a force to be reckoned with.  Randy Wolf surrendered 3-runs in 5-innings and was saddled with the loss.

NLDS by pitching 7 solid innings in last night’s 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.  It’s the first post season victory for the 35-year-old Wolf.  It ties the series at 2-2 and it guarantees that the series now must return to Milwaukee for a game 6, regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game 5.

Wolf pitches pivotal game 4 tonight (AUDIO)

October 13, 2011 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Brewers lefty Randy Wolf pitched just three innings and took the loss in game 4 of the National League Divisional Series at Arizona last week.  Tonight, Wolf pitches game 4 of the National League Championship series at St. Louis tonight, facing close to a must win scenario.

If the Brewers lose tonight, they’ll trail the Cardinals 3-1 and would need to win all three remaining games to advance to the World Series.

Last time out, Wolf struggled to get ahead and didn’t throw many strikes against Arizona.  That will need to change tonight.

AUDIO: Randy Wolf needs to throw more strikes :21

Wolf gave up 7-earned runs on 8-hits in taking the loss against the Diamondbacks.

Kyle Lohse will be well rested.  It’s been 12-days since he last pitched.

AUDIO: Kyle Lohse on pitching with a lot of time off between starts :19
