Raji with torn bicep, out for the season

August 23, 2014 By Bill Scott

B.J. Raji rushes against J.C. Tretter in Training Camp practice.

B.J. Raji rushes against J.C. Tretter in Training Camp practice.

If the Green Bay Packers are going to repeat as NFC North Division champions, they’re going to have to do it without nose tackle B.J. Raji.

The Packers haven’t made any official announcement but a source indicates that Raji did suffer the injury early in Friday night’s 31-21 win over the Oakland Raiders in exhibition play.  NFL.com initially reported Raji was believed to have torn his biceps.

The Packers re-signed Raji in the off-season for one-year at $4 million.  Prior to last night’s injury, Raji had been having a very good training camp, getting back into the swing of things at the nose after playing end a lot last season.

In the short-term, the Packers look to second-year nose tackle Josh Boyd, free-agent Letroy Guion and undrafted rookie Mike Pennel, who has had a good training camp, pushing for a spot on the roster.

Guion has missed the entire training camp with a hamstring injury and was projected to open the season on the P.U.P. list.  Raji’s injury could however force the Packers to bring Guion along sooner.

Veteran Ryan Pickett is still available as well.  He turns 35 in October and said he still wants to play and would love to come back to Green Bay.

Jones not sure where his future is

January 6, 2014 By Bill Scott

James Jones isn’t sure where his football future will take him, but he plans to spend a month or more decompressing with his family before he

James Jones

James Jones

starts getting back into the football swing of things.

Jones will be an unrestricted free agent and it’s uncertain just what the Green Bay Packers thought process is about having him remain a part of the outstanding Packers’ receiving group.

Jones is one of the higher profile players set to hit free agency, joining players like Jermichael Finley, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Sam Shields, B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett and Johnny Jolly.  Add Mike Neal, John Kuhn and Andrew Quarless to that list as well.

AUDIO: James Jones not sweating free agency :17

Jones was an unrestricted free agent three years ago as well.  He returned to the Packers, but that was a totally different deal.

AUDIO: Jones said things are different this time :11

Jones is also a different player than he was three years ago, from the standpoint of numbers along.  He’s become more of a consistent, productive, go-to player.

Jones and the Packers almost had another week of playoff football to concern themselves with.  They took the 49ers to the wire and lost 23-20 when Phil Dawson booted a 33-yard field goal, his 3rd of the day, to win it for San Francisco.

Green Bay Packers injury status update (AUDIO)

August 24, 2012 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed two injuries following

Davon House

Thursday nights 27-13 win over Cincinnati.  TE Tom Crabtree suffered a shoulder injury and DE Ryan Pickett a calf injury.  Neither player returned to action in the game.

As it turns out, Crabtree escaped from any serious injury.  McCarthy said he’ll have a chance to make it back for the final preseason game against Kansas City this Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

McCarthy didn’t offer much information on Ryan Pickett, other than to say he’ll be hard-pressed to make it back for the Chiefs game.

McCarthy also added linebacker Robert Francois to the injury report with a hamstring injury. [Read more…]

Packers veterans get some time off

August 6, 2012 By Bill Scott

Sunday night’s training camp workout was a showcase opportunity for some of

Graham Harrell

the younger players on the Green Bay Packers roster.

A handful of veterans were given the night off which allowed players like Graham Harrell and wide receiver Diondre Borel to get some more legitimate reps.

AUDIO: Mike McCarthy said it was great work for the younger players :19

Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Ryan Pickett, Jarrett Bush, Jeff Saturday, Charles Woodson, Anthony Hargrove, A.J. Hawk and Greg Jennings were all off.  Jennings would have missed anyway because of a concussion.  John Kuhn could have taken the day off, but given the fact that he just returned to practice, he decided to work anyway.

Goodell to visit today

August 1, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers are back on the practice field this morning and they’ll

Desmond Bishop

welcome NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to camp today.

Goodell will also have with him, some replacement officials.  It’s possible they may have to work regular season games this year.  The regular officials are still without a new labor deal.

Injury List

Jermichael Finley returned to practice in full pads on Tuesday.  Finley returned after suffering a concussion late last week.

Wide receiver Greg Jennings (elbow) is expected to be back practicing today and linebacker Desmond Bishop (calf) could be back later this week.

DE Ryan Pickett (bruised knee), RB Marc Tyler (shoulder) and DT Mike Daniels (knee, groin) all left practice early yesterday.
