The 6th ranked Wisconsin Badgers are already in the NCAA Tournament, while the Michigan Wolverines only real chance to get in would have likely been to win the Big Ten Tournament title.  The start of today’s quarterfinal game looked like that.

Michigan played harder early, playing with a real sense of urgency, while the Badgers looked as if their wakeup call came a few minutes late this morning.

There haven’t been many down moments for the Badgers this season, and when things didn’t go their way early, there’s been no panic.  Such was the case again today, as the Badgers woke up, chipped away and took a 5-point lead into the locker room at halftime.  Wisconsin went on to win, 71-60 at the United Center and will face either Penn State or Purdue in Saturday’s semifinals. The 6th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers had already wrapped up the Big Ten regular season title and the number-1 seed in the Big Ten tournament.  But they still had one game left to play and coach Bo Ryan said the mission was to head back to Madison with a win.

Mission Accomplished!  The Badgers rolled to 72-48 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Senior Day in Columbus, Ohio.

5th-ranked Wisconsin was trying to gain a share of the Big Ten regular-season basketball title, but a poor first half had the Badgers doing nothing but playing catch-up.

Wisconsin scored just 20 points in the first half and a late rally fell short against 14th ranked Maryland.  The Badgers fell to the Terrapins 59-53 in College Park, Maryland.

Wisconsin (25-3, 13-2) saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end, shooting just 30% from the field in the first half and hitting just 1 of 11 from beyond the arc.  The 20 points in the first half is the fewest total in a half for the Badgers this season.

Wisconsin trailed by 11 at halftime but battled back in the second half to eventually draw even at 47-47.  But Maryland finished the final six minutes of the game on a 12-6 run to pull away and win. [Read more…]

The Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, in its inaugural year, recognizes the top centers in Division 1 men’s college basketball.  The Julius Erving Award, also in its inaugural year, recognizes the top small forwards in the men’s game.  Each watch list contains 15 candidates determined by a national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel.
