Eric Thames and Jesus Aguilar both homered as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Sunday, salvaging the final game of their three-game series.

Chase Anderson lasted only four innings but allowed just three runs.  Matt Albers picked up the win out of the bullpen as the Brewers avoided being swept in the series.

Junior Guerra and Jeremy Jeffress followed Albers with a scoreless inning each before Josh Hader retired the last six hitters to record his 17th save of the season.

Kevin Pillar, Brandon Belt and Jeff Samardzija all notched an RBI for the Giants.  Samardzija took the loss, allowing four runs over five innings for the Giants, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

The Brewers open a three game series in San Diego against the Padres on Monday night.  Jhoulys Chacin (3-7, 5.74) returns from the disabled list to pitch for the Brewers.  Joey Lucchesi (5-4, 4.11) goes for the Padres.

The Milwaukee Brewers were denied a four-game sweep following an 8-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on Sunday.

The Brewers got off to a good start when Christian Yelich singled in the first and Ryan Braun homered for a 2-0 lead.

Junior Guerra held that lead until the third when he walked the bases loaded and served up a bases loaded double.  The Giants would end up scoring four times in the third and three times in the fifth off of reliever Matt Albers.

Hernan Perez and Travis Shaw also homered for the Brewers, who took three of four in the series.

Guerra fell to 6-7, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

With the Cubs winning in St. Louis on Sunday night, the Brewers trail the Central Division leaders by a game and a half.

The Brewers open a four-game series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight.  Freddy Peralta (4-2, 3.74) pitches for the Brewers.  Kenta Maeda (7-5, 3.27) goes for the Dodgers.  First pitch time is set for 9:10 p.m.

Brewers late rally beats Giants

July 27, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers scored two runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth to rally for a 7-5 win over the Giants in San Francisco.

Travis Shaw capped the ninth with a two-run homer for the Brewers, who remain 2 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central division.

Christian Yelich also homered for the Brewers, falling a triple short of the cycle while also scoring three runs.  The Brewers snapped a six-game road losing streak in the opener of the four-game series.

Reliever Josh Hader made his first appearance in a road game since his controversial tweets from 2011 were publicized.  The San Francisco crowd booed Hader’s entrance in the sixth inning, but it quickly went away and that was it. [Read more…]

Two run seventh keys Brewers victory

August 23, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers scored two runs in the seventh inning on Tuesday night to pull out a 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Ryan Braun tied the game in the seventh with a sacrifice fly off of reliever Albert Suarez and Travis Shaw followed with a run-scoring double with two outs to put the Brewers on top for good.

With the Chicago Cubs winning their game, the Brewers stayed 2 1/2 games back in the race for the National League Central division lead.  The Brewers are also three games behind Colorado for the last Wild Card spot in the National League.

The Giants looked like they had a chance to tie the game in the eighth inning but Hernan Perez, who took over for Domingo Santana in right field, threw out Nick Hundley at the plate, trying to score on Denard Span’s two-out single.

The Brewers collected just two runs on six hits in six innings off of Jeff Samardzija.

Starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson struggled through his five-inning start, allowing three runs.  Brandon Crawford clubbed a two run homer off of Nelson in the fifth to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.

The Brewers and Giants play the rubber match of the series this afternoon.  Matt Garza (6-7, 4.81) gets the nod for the Brewers.  First pitch time is set for 2:45 p.m.

Brewer bats go silent in loss to Giants (AUDIO)

August 22, 2017 By Bill Scott

Chris Stratton and three relievers combined to help the San Francisco Giants shut down the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 in their series opener on Monday night at AT&T Park.

Stratton improved to 2-2, holding the Brewers to four hits over six innings.  San Francisco’s bullpen didn’t allow a hit and Sam Dyson earned his 11th save.

The Giants scored both of their runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Brandon Crawford’s RBI double.  Nick Hundley’s grounder to second base plated the second run.

Zach Davies was saddled with the loss but deserved a better fate.  He worked six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, two walks and struck out five. [Read more…]

Brewers miss opportunity, fall to Giants in 10-innings

June 9, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers scored twice in the 9th inning to pull even with San Francisco 5-5, but with a runner at third base and nobody out, they failed to score him.  The result?  The Giants went on to win 9-5 in 10-innings.

Eric Sogard hit a leadoff home run in the ninth to draw the Brewers to within a run at 5-4.  Eric Thames drew a walk, moved to third on a Jesus Aguilar double and scored on a Travis Shaw single to center, tying the game 5-5.

With runners at the corners and nobody out, Domingo Santana struck out, Jett Bandy hit a line drive right at the third baseman, Eduardo Nunez for out number two and pinch-hitter Hernan Perez grounded out to end the threat.

Rookie Paolo Espino made his second start of the season for the Brewers.  He allowed three runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs in four innings of work, but wasn’t involved in the decision. [Read more…]

August 1, 2016 By Bill Scott

Brewers logoJust one day after catcher Jonathan Lucroy vetoed a trade to the Cleveland Indians, the Milwaukee Brewers dealt him, along with reliever Jeremy Jeffress to the Texas Rangers just before the 3 p.m. trade deadline.

In return, the Brewers acquired the second and third rated prospects in the Rangers system.  Lewis Brinson is rated number-2 and right-handed pitcher Luis Ortiz is rated number-3, as well as the best pitching prospect in the Texas organization.

The 22-year-old Brinson was the 29th overall pick in the 2012 draft and has been playing at Class AA Frisco this season. [Read more…]

The San Francisco Giants are looking for outfield help and according to reports, they have an interest in Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that the Giants have had some preliminary talks with the Brewers about trading for Braun.

The two teams open a three-game series in San Francisco tonight, giving the Giants a close up look at Braun for themselves.

Despite missing nine games with injury or just simply getting some rest this season, Braun is still on pace to hit 28 home runs and drive in more than 90 runs.

Braun has made the All-Star team six times in his career and carries a .316 average with 11 home runs and 36 RBI going into the series.
