Packers hold off late charging Seahawks to advance to NFC Championship

January 13, 2020 By Bill Scott

Aaron Rodgers File Photo UPI/Bill Greenblatt

Aaron Rodgers played one of his best games of the season, helping the Green Bay Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-23 in the NFC Divisional playoffs and securing a rematch with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

Rodgers and Davante Adams put the Packers on their backs, connecting eight times for 160 yards and two touchdowns.  The 160 receiving yards for Adams is a Green Bay Packers playoff-franchise record.

When the Packers needed a big play, Rodgers was there to deliver a series of pinpoint accurate passes, helping his team to a season best 9-of-14 on third downs (69%).  That is the best third down accuracy rate for the Packers since the 2016 season.

Rodgers sealed the victory with a pair of third-down passes, a 32-yard pass to Adams on a third-and-8 [Read more…]

Packers add secondary help

May 14, 2019 By Bill Scott

Jace Sternberger

The Green Bay Packers are adding to their secondary, claiming Mike Tyson off waivers from the Houston Texans.

Tyson was a 2017 draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks out of the University of Cincinnati in the sixth round.  He spent most of that season on Seattle’s practice squad.

Last year, Tyson signed to the Texans practice squad and went on to appear in 10 games with two starts at safety.

Packers sign Jenkins

The Packers have come to terms with second-round draft pick Elgton Jenkins, a guard out of Mississippi State.  That means the Packers have deals with seven of their eight 2019 draft picks.

Tight end Jace Sternberger is the only Packers draft pick from this year’s class without a deal.

Wilson gives Seahawks a deadline

April 3, 2019 By Bill Scott

Russell Wilson

Former Wisconsin and current Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has given the franchise a deadline of April 15 to have a new contract completed.

Wilson will be entering the final year of a four-year, $87.6 million deal that he signed during the 2015 offseason.  He’s set to make $17 million in base salary in 2019, the final year of his current deal.

The Seahawks start phase one of their offseason workout program on April 15 and the Seattle Times reports that Wilson would like to have a contract extension done by then.

The two sides are reportedly in discussion.

Wilson completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,448 yards, 35 touchdowns and a 110.9 quarterback rating.  His seven interceptions tied his career low.

Packers defense saves the day in win over Seahawks (AUDIO)

September 11, 2017 By Bill Scott

Mike Daniels with one of his biggest days as a pro.

The game was dominated by defense early, but the Green Bay Packers eventually wore Seattle down and knocked off the Seahawks 17-9 in the season opener at Lambeau Field.

The Packers had a nearly 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession (39:13 to 20:47) as they closed out the victory in the final quarter.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers started show and tossed an interception in the first half, ending a streak of 251 straight passes without one, which was a career high.  Rodgers would finish by completing 28 of 42 for 311 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

His only scoring strike came when the Seahawks were late getting a 12th player off the field and as usual, the Packers took advantage.  Rodgers looked to the sideline, saw the flag come out and then found Jordy Nelson down the middle for a 32 yard scoring strike.

Earlier in the game, Nelson became the fourth receiver in Packers franchise history to reach 500 career receptions.  He joined the elite company of Donald Driver, Sterling Sharpe and James Lofton.  [Read more…]

Packers get some help at guard

April 27, 2017 By Bill Scott

Packers offensive lineman work during OTA’s

The immediate need to find a replacement for right guard T.J. Lang may have been addressed by the Green Bay Packers.

One day before the 2017 NFL Draft, the Packers signed six-time Pro Bowl guard Jahri Evans.

Evans spent 11 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and started all 16 games for the Seattle Seahawks last season.

It doesn’t mean the Packers won’t look for guard help in the draft, but the immediate need has diminished with Evans signing.

The Packers decided not to match the three-year, $28.5 million deal that Lang signed with the Detroit Lions.

The Seahawks, who had offensive line issues last season, didn’t think Evans had much left.  The Packers are hoping he does, for at least one season.

Eagles sign former Badger, Moffitt

June 30, 2015 By Bill Scott

John Moffitt

John Moffitt

The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Wisconsin Badger guard John Moffitt to a one-year contract this week.

Moffitt was a third-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.  He started 15 games in Seattle before being traded to Denver.  Moffitt played in two games for the Broncos in 2013 before retiring in midseason after losing interest in the game and saying he’s worried about his health.

Moffitt then ran into trouble with the law after being arrested in March 2014 for allegedly punching a man and was charged with assault, public urination and possession of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy.  The drug charges were eventually released.

Patroits capture fourth Super Bowl, Brady wins 3rd MVP honor (VIDEO)

Tom Brady Celebrates his 4th Super Bowl victory

Tom Brady Celebrates his 4th Super Bowl victory

Tom Brady is the Super Bowl XLIX MVP, but little known cornerback Malcom Butler is the Super Bowl hero for the New England Patriots.

Butler read slant and stepped up to intercept Russell Wilson’s attempt to Ricardo Lockette at the goal line and the Patriots ran off the final seconds for their fourth Super Bowl victory.

Seattle appeared destined for a Super Bowl repeat, but Tom Brady took New England 64 yards on 10 plays to give the Patriots (15-4) a four-point lead on his 3-yard touchdown pass to Julian Edelman with 2:02 left to play. [Read more…]

Lynch & Matthews draw NFL fines from NFC title game

January 23, 2015 By Bill Scott

Clay Matthews

Clay Matthews

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was fined $20,000 by the NFL for an obscene gesture following his 24-yard, go-ahead touchdown with 1 minute and 25 seconds left to play in Seattle’s 28-22 overtime win over the Green Bay Packers.

The incident, which had Lynch grab his crotch with his back turned to the official after the score, wasn’t flagged.

Lynch was also fined $11,050 for grabbing his crotch after a touchdown in December.

Clay Matthews

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews was also fined $22,050 by the NFL for his blind side hit on Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson.

The hit came on a return after Ha Ha Clinton-Dix intercepted Wilson.

Matthews was flagged on the play, resulting in a 15-yard penalty.

Packers preparing for the offseason (Video)

January 20, 2015 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers fans are still dealing with a hangover from Sunday’s 28-22 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks.  Instead of playing in Super Bowl 49, the Packers will be planning for the offseason, free agency, the scouting combine and the draft.

Fans are blaming Brandon Bostick for the loss, but there’s so many different things that led to Sunday’s defeat, despite the fact that the Packers outplayed Seattle for most of the game.
