Packers Use Home Field To Crush Titans

December 28, 2020 By Bill Scott

#28 AJ Dillon

The Green Bay Packers showed the rest of the NFL what they could be in store for if the NFC playoffs come through Lambeau Field in their entirety.

A day that was filled with snow and cold, the Packers dominated the Tennessee Titans 40-14, improving to 12-3 on the season.  The Packers are one win away on Sunday afternoon in Chicago to clinch a first round bye and top billing in the NFC playoffs.

The Packers played their most complete game of the season, racking up 448 yards of offense and seeing their defense hold Titans running back Derek Henry under 100-yards (98 yards) with no touchdowns.  Henry entered the game with a league best 1,679 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was just 11 of 24 for 121 yards and a touchdown and threw a pair of interceptions.

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t bothered by the snow and cold at all.  In fact, he embraced it, on the way to a four touchdown day.  Rodgers completed 21 of 25 for 231 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.  Three of his four scoring strikes went to Davante Adams, who finished with 11 receptions for 142 yards. Packers open preseason against Tennessee

August 9, 2018 By Bill Scott

Aaron Rodgers isn’t expected to play in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans at Lambeau Field.  He hasn’t played in a preseason opener since 2015.  It means the battle for the backup job, between Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer will heat up.

Hundley and Kizer are expected to split snaps with fourth-stringer Tim Boyle potentially getting a brief chance in the end.

Most of the teams starters will see little or no time, like wide receivers Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison.  It leaves Jake Kumerow, J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scanting and Equanimeous St. Brown to get most of the opportunity as they battle for roster spots.  Among that group, Kumerow has been the most consistent and has drawn the endorsement of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Packer Nation will get their first look at new Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine’s defense.  The Packers are expected to see Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota, who is expected to play tonight.

Kick time tonight is set for 7 p.m. at Lambeau Field.

Before Peterson, the Packers must stop Johnson (AUDIO)

December 21, 2012 By Bill Scott

After three-straight games against NFC North opponents, the Green Bay Packers (10-4) step out of the division and the conference to host the Tennessee Titans (5-9) Sunday at Lambeau Field.  A lot of the talk this week has been about the Packers facing a dynamic running back before the season is over, Adrian Peterson.  Peterson is 294-yards short of Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record as the Packers and Vikings will meet in week 17.  However, Green Bay will have their hands full this week with Tennessee’s talented back Chris Johnson.

The last few seasons have been up-and-down for Johnson.  Last year, he had a very public and criticized hold-out that many people blame for his struggles.  He tallied just 1047-yards, an okay number but nothing close to what was expected.  Johnson is the most recent running back to go over 2000-yards for a season, doing so in 2009.

Matthews vs Matthews: Who wins this Sunday?

December 21, 2012 By admin

Clay Matthews is set for a family reunion this Sunday when the Packers play the Titans

Green Bay Packers Clay Matthews is set for a family reunion of sorts, as he faces his uncle, Tennessee Titan’s offensive line coach Bruce Matthews, this Sunday.

The family reunion was originally intended for Clay Matthews to play against cousin, and Titan offensive lineman, Kevin Matthews and Uncle Bruce, but Kevin will miss the game with a high-ankle sprain.

Even with Kevin Matthews out of the lineup, Clay is looking forward to Sunday.

Clay Matthews returned to the field after missing four weeks with a hamstring injury.  He  registered two sacks and six combined tackles in the crucial road win against Chicago last week.

Three generations of Matthews men have proven a strong tradition of playing in the NFL, and being exceptional players.  It dates back to the 1950’s when Clay Matthews’ grandfather played for the San Francisco 49ers. [Read more…]
