Tiger is a mess as PGA Championship draws closer (AUDIO)

August 9, 2010 By Bill Scott

Hunter Mahan fired a final round 6-under par 64 to win his first World Golf

Players warmup at Whistling Straits

Championship, the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

Mahan started the final round 4-shots off the lead.  He ran off 5-straight birdies on the front 9 to take the lead, then put together three clutch par saves to hold off Ryan Palmer by 2-shots.

Tiger Woods will remain number one in the World Golf Rankings for the 270th consecutive week.  But Woods is coming off the worst tournament of his career.  He closed with a final round 77 to finish 18-shots over par for the tournament, his highest score on the PGA Tour as a pro or amateur.

Woods is clearly struggling heading into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.  It’s his last chance to get it together this season, trying to earn a Captain’s pick for the upcoming Ryder Cup by American Captain Corey Pavin.

Practice rounds started at Whistling Straits yesterday for the 92nd PGA Championship which starts on Thursday.  Whistling Straits also played host to the 2004 PGA Championship and will host the 2015 event as well.

Play suspended in 2nd round at British Open

July 16, 2010 By Bill Scott

The second round of the British Open had a wind delay early and nobody went under par when play resumed.  Enough time was lost though to force suspension of the 2nd round, which means some players will go back out early tomorrow morning to complete the round.

Luis Oosthuizen shot a 5-under par 67 to go 12-under for the tournament.  He’ll take a 5-shot lead over Mark Calcavecchiainto the 3rd round tomorrow.

The projected cut line was at -1 early on.  As conditions got worse, that line went to 1-over par.  That means Madison’s Steve Stricker, who shot a 2-over par 74, settled at +1 for the first two rounds.  That will keep him around for the weekend.  Fellow Madison native Jerry Kelly will head home early.  Kelly shot a 3-over par 75 to finish the first two rounds at 10-over par.

Tiger Woods shot a 1-over par 67 and heads into the weekend at 4-under par.

Mickelson is a feel good story at the Masters

April 12, 2010 By Bill Scott

The 74th Masters couldn’t have turned out better.  Instead of Tiger Woods returning to golf to win his 5th green jacket, Phil Mickelson captured his 3rd.

It was an emotional win for Mickelson, who has watched while his wife and his mother are both battling breast cancer.    Watching Mickelson be able to share the moment with his wife Amy and his family, was both emotional and thrilling.

Mickelson said, “I don’t normally shed tears over wins, but when Amy and I hugged off 18, that was a very emotional moment for us and something I’ll look back on and cherish.” [Read more…]

Tiger apologizes over and over and over

February 19, 2010 By Bill Scott

Tiger Woods told a national audience today that he was sorry for all the wrong he did.  His message today, could have delivered a month or more ago.  He apologized to his wife and children, although none of them were on hand to see or hear it.  He apologized to his sponsors and the rest of the carefully selected guests that were on hand to show their support.

Woods showed anger towards those that fabricated stories about his wife abusing him after finding out about the extra-marital affairs that Tiger had taken part in.  He admitted his indiscretions over and over and then repeatedly asked for forgiveness. [Read more…]
