Barrett returns to State Fair

A year after being attacked outside of the State Fair, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett returns.

Barrett was injured last August outside of State Fair Park, while trying to intervene in a domestic dispute. The Democratic candidate for governor still wears a brace on his injured right hand, but says he didn’t hesitate when returning to the scene of the attack. [Read more…]

A Democratic candidate for governor wants more disclosure on when lobbyists and state officials meet.

The proposal from Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett would require heads of state agencies, cabinet members, and other appointees of the governor, as well as lobbyists, to file a report within 48 hours of any contact they have with each other. [Read more…]

Barrett proposes redistricting changes

Every ten years, there’s a battle in the Legislature over how district lines across the state will be drawn and one candidate for governor says it needs to end.

Barrett proposes jobs plan (AUDIO)

Democratic candidate for Governor Tom Barrett is outlining his plan to create jobs and grow the state’s economy.  The Milwaukee Mayor rolled out a five-part proposal on Thursday in Verona aimed at helping Wisconsin recover jobs lost in the recession.

Barrett says it includes dozens of specific proposals to improve the state’s business climate, encourage new investments and businesses to build in Wisconsin, and create good paying jobs that are needed to boost the state economy. [Read more…]

Mayor optimistic school reforms will help MPS

Before adjourning last week, the Legislature passed a bill granting new powers to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction to intervene in failing school districts. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the legislation, which Governor Doyle is expected to sign, is a step in the right direction when it comes to addressing the problems in MPS. [Read more…]
