The Rice Lake Warriors captured the WIAA Division 2 Boys Track & Field regional title at Cameron on Tuesday and Rice Lake junior Kenny Bednarek helped highlight the victory.

Bednarek set a new state record in the boys’ 400-meter dash, clocked at 47 seconds flat.  He is the defending state champion in the event and is now the state record holder after beating Caleb Ogden’s (Oak Creek) time of 47.01 seconds

Bednarek’s record mark is one of 14 sectional qualifying performances for the Warrior boys.

The Rice Lake girls finished second in the team competition but had 17 sectional-qualifying performances.

The Division 2 sectional will be held Thursday at Medford.

Wisconsin senior Kelsey Card threw 202 feet, 4 inches to finish third in the hammer throw on Friday, becoming the first collegian in history to surpass 2oo feet in both the discus and hammer and top 60 feet in the shot put.

On Saturday, Card broke her own Big Ten meet record in the shot put with a toss of 59-9 1/2 to claim her sixth conference title.

Card continued her winning ways on Sunday, claiming the Big Ten Conference crown in the discus with a league-record throw of 204-2.

The throw makes Card the No. 10 performer in NCAA history in the discus, a week after she entered the all-time top 10 in the shot put.

Card scored 26 of UW’s 55.5 points on the weekend, as the Badgers finished in eighth in the team standings.  Michigan and Minnesota shared the team title with 106 points.

The Badgers will find out how many athletes they qualify for the 2016 NCAA West Preliminary Round later this week.

2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday in Geneva, Ohio.

The Badgers scored 90 points to emerge victorious out of an extremely tight team race that saw the top five teams separated by just four points.

Wisconsin won its 17th Big Ten title in track and field (indoor and outdoor) since 2000.  The rest of the league has combined for nine titles in that span.  It is UW’s first indoor championship since 2008 and follows the Badgers’ outdoor crown from 2012.

The championship is the 26th for UW under 30th-year head coach Ed Nuttycombe, the winningest coach in Big Ten history.
