At least one veteran player will be returning to the Wisconsin Badger men’s basketball team next season.

Guard Brad Davison announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he plans to return to Wisconsin for his final season, taking advantage of the NCAA’s decision that athletes who competed in their sport during the 2020-21 academic year could so so without losing a season of eligibility.

Davison has started 124 of 218 games during his first four seasons and averaged 10 points and 3.5 rebounds a game last season.

“After taking some time to reflect, there is no place I would rather be than in Madison,” said Davison.

“Being a Badger is a privilege.  I am grateful for one last ride with my coaches and teammates this upcoming season!”

Teammate D’Mitrik Trice decided not to return for an extra season and Trevor Anderson, who originally started his collegiate career at Green Bay, has decided to transfer to Valparaiso for his final season.

Despite cold shooting, No. 21 Wisconsin gets by Nebraska (AUDIO)

February 11, 2021 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badgers may have been fortunate to be facing a Nebraska team that is still looking for its first Big Ten Conference victory.  UW struggled again offensively, shooting just 32% from the field but still managed to pull out a 61-48 victory over the Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb.

Freshman Jonathan Davis scored 10 points, the only Badger in double figures to help UW pull away in the second half.

With five of their final six games against ranked opponents, the Badgers will most likely have to figure out their shooting woes or struggle to win games as a result.  The first test comes Sunday against 3rd ranked Michigan at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (15-6, 9-5 Big Ten) swept their season series with the Huskers.  Nebraska (4-11, 0-8) has now lost 25 straight games in Big Ten play. [Read more…]

The Wisconsin Badgers committed 14 turnovers and allowed 14 offensive rebounds, falling to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 72-65 in Big Ten action on Wednesday night.

Rutgers held a 22-10 edge in points off turnovers and 23-5 edge in second-chance points.

The Badgers started Big Ten play with a 20-point win over Indiana last Saturday, but they couldn’t keep that momentum going on the road.  Wisconsin is now 0-5 on the road this season.  They’re 5-5 overall, 1-1 in the Big Ten.

Rutgers (7-3, 1-1) improved to 7-0 at home.  Geo Baker hit 9 of 18 shots from the floor and finished with 22 points.

Kobe King had 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting to lead the Badgers.  Trevor Anderson added 11.  King had 24 points to lead the Badgers in the Big Ten opener against Indiana.  But Wisconsin’s leading scorer, Nate Reuvers, hit just 2 of 8 shots and finished with six points.

The Badgers fell behind 9-0 to start but battled their way back and took a 1-point halftime lead.  Rutgers jumped back in front in the second half and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Badgers are off until a week from Saturday against UW-Milwaukee at the Kohl Center.  The Badgers will get transfer Micah Potter back for that game, his first game action as a Badger.

Three of the state’s NCAA Division I men’s basketball programs were impacted Wednesday by news of players transferring. UW-Green Bay freshman Trevor Anderson announced he’ll be leaving the Phoenix, and his scholarship, to walk on with the Wisconsin Badgers.

Anderson averaged 9.8 nearly ten points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting nearly 38% from three-point range as the starting point guard at UWGB before a back injury ended his first season. The 6’2″ Anderson was the state’s Mr. Basketball leading Stevens Point Area Senior High to back-to-back state titles. He scored 2,360 points in his high school career. Per NCAA transfer rules, Anderson will sit out the 2017-18 season and have three years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin added another 2,000-point prep scorer Wednesday with 6’3″ walk-on guard Walt McGrory from Edina, Minnesota. McGrory turned down scholarship offers from Drake and South Dakota State, among others, to join the Badgers.

As first reported by ESPN, the Marquette Golden Eagles will add Nebraska transfer Ed Morrow to their 2018-19 roster. The 6’7″ power forward averaged 9.4 points and 7.5 rebounds last year for the Cornhuskers. The Chicago, Illinois, native will have two year of eligibility remaining after sitting out the upcoming season per NCAA transfer rules.

Wisconsin and Marquette each have one scholarship left to use for 2017-18.
