Butler named to U.S. Olympic Basketball Roster

Kaukauna Basktball 008USA Basketball announced today the 12 players who will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 15-21.

Among the 12 is former Marquette standout Jimmy Butler, who plays with the Chicago Bulls.

Also named to the squad is Carmelo Anthony (N.Y. Knicks), Harrison Barnes (Golden State), DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento) DeMar DeRozan (Toront0), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City), Paul George (Indiana), Draymond Green (Golden State), Kyrie Irving (Cleveland), DeAndrew Jordan (LA Clippers), Kyle Lowry (Toronto) and Clay Thompson (Golden State).

Bucks Jabari Parker chosen for 2016 USA Basketball Select Team

Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker has been named to the 2016 USA Basketball’s Men’s Select team on Tuesday.

The second-year pro will train with the men’s national team in Las Vegas from July 18-21 before the national team heads to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the summer Olympics.

Parker, who won gold medals at the U16 and U17 World Championships as a member of USA Basketball, averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 rebounds a game this past season.

The team will be coached by Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, while Villanova head coach Jay Wright will serve as an assistant.

Michael Carter-Williams added to Men’s National Team Minicamp

USA Basketball announced that Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Carter-Williams is among the 34 players tabbed to participate in next week’s Men’s National Team Minicamp in Las Vegas.

The 34-player list includes 26 players on the National Team roster and eight players who are new additions to the 2014-16 USA Basketball National Team.

The roster of attendees includes all 12 members of the gold medalist 2014 USA World Cup Team, and nine Olympic gold medalists, including eight members of the 2012 London Olympic team.

Michael Carter-Williams is one of the new members added to the roster.

The 2015 USA National Team minicamp will feature practices on Aug. 11-12, and the minicamp will conclude on Aug. 13 with the 2015 USA Basketball Showcase, a USA Blue versus USA White exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center.
