Green Bay (4-2) took third place at the Great Alaska Shootout, opening with a 97-89 win over Pepperdine on Thanksgiving.  The following day, the Phoenix held a late lead on Harvard before a Crimson burst sent the Phoenix to a 76-64 defeat.  Green Bay closed the tournament with a 67-59 win over Tulsa.

Sykes scored 20 or more points in all three games in Anchorage, beginning with a 23-point, 7-assist effort against Pepperdine.  Sykes had a game-high 26 points against Harvard and 22 points and nine assists against Tulsa.

In his 70th career game, the junior guard moved past 1,000 career points against Tulsa, becoming the third-quickest player in Green Bay’s Division 1 history to reach the mark.  Sykes also earned his sixth career player of the week honor and is Green Bay’s all-time leader in that category.

Green Bay returns to action this Saturday (Dec. 7) against Tony Bennett and the Virginia Cavaliers.

Wardle’s conduct cost the UW System $25,000 in legal fees.

According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, that figure was the maximum agreed-upon total between the law firm of Godfrey and Kahn.  The actual total in legal fees for the six-week investigation would have been $42,338 had no cap been set.

Wardle was served with his formal letter of reprimand on Tuesday.  That letter was part of the sanctions taken against Wardle following the investigation.

The Phoenix (6-9, 0-2 Horizon League), trailed the entire second half, but managed to pull the game within two points, with 3:39 to play in the game.  However, after making the game 68-66, Detroit went on to make 12 of 13 free throw attempts to put the game out of reach for the Phoenix.

Green Bay guard Kiefer Sykes led the team in scoring with 21 points, and was one of four Phoenix players in double-digit scoring.  Greg Mays scored 18 points, Alec Brown scored 16, and Sultan Muhammad scored 11 points on the night.
