Bucks hold two picks, Berggren hopes to be drafted

The 2013 NBA Draft is tonight form Radio City Music Hall in New York.  The Cleveland Cavaliers hold the top pick with Orlando and Washington rounding out the top 3.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a pair of selections tonight; 15th overall in the first round and 43rd overall in the second round.  With Monta Ellis opting out of his deal, Brandon Jennings becoming a restricted free agent, and J.J Redick becoming an unrestricted free agent, it’s easy to believe guard will be the way the Bucks go.  General Manager John Hammond is in the same line of thinking, but can’t guarantee that is what will happen…

Blue hopes to hear his name Thursday

It was a move that caught a lot of people by surprise.  Vander Blue’s name wasn’t on many mock drafts but still the Junior decided to to forgo his Senior season and enter the 2013 NBA Draft.

Blue leaving Marquette early for the NBA

Junior guard Vander Blue said today that he’s forgoing his final year of college basketball eligibility at Marquette and will enter the NBA draft.

The 6’4 Blue plans to sign with an agent.

The Madison, Wis. native earned All-Big East Second Team honors in the process.  He finished the season ranked 14th in the Big East Conference in scoring (14.8 ppg) and also topped the roster in that category.  Blue shot 45% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.

Blue started 80 games during his career at Marquette.  He finished with 982 points.

Marquette keeps dancing (Audio)

The Marquette Golden Eagles built an early double-digit lead and never looked back as they topped Miami 71-61 in the East Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament Thursday night in Washington D.C.  After leading 29-16 at the half, the closest the game ever got was ten, the final margin.

Jamil Wilson had 16-points to lead the Golden Eagles.  Vander Blue and Davante Gardener added 14-each while Trent Lockett chipped in with 8-points and 11-boards.  After the game, Head Coach Buzz Williams was proud of his team’s effort…

Marquette headed back to NCAA “Sweet 16”

The Marquette Golden Eagles are headed back to the NCAA’s Sweet 16 for the 3rd straight season.  The Golden Eagles squeaked by Butler 74-72, avenging a 1-point loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season.

Butler’s Rotnei Clarke, who beat the Golden Eagles at the Maui Invitational back in November with a three-point shot, this time tried again and missed everything.

Vander Blue had 29 to lead Marquette in the win.  They’ll take on the winner of Sunday’s game between Illinois and Miami next week.

Davidson mistake in final seconds gives Marquette NCAA victory

The Marquette Golden Eagles came from six points down with 70 seconds left to play to beat the Davidson Wildcats 59-58 in their NCAA men’s basketball tournament opener in Lexington, Kentucky.

Davidson led by one in the final seconds and turned the ball over.  Marquette inbounded with 6.7 seconds left, got the ball to Vander Blue, who drove and scored the game winning basket with 1 second left to play and sent the Golden Eagles on to victory.

Marquette (24-8) moves on to face sixth-seeded Butler on Saturday in a rematch that saw them lose to the Bulldogs back in November in Maui.

Marquette struggled from beyond the arc, 1 for its first 12.  Then, when the Golden Eagles needed it most, Jamil Wilson made a three-point shot with a minute to play.  Vander Blue hit another with 27.8 seconds left and Wilson made yet another, with 10.9 seconds left to play.

Marquette breeze’s to road win

Todd Mayo and Vander Blue had 13 points each to lead 24th ranked Marquette to an easy 70-47 Big East Conference road victory at South Florida.

The Golden Eagles jumped to a 39-16 halftime lead and never looked back.

Marquette has dominated the all-time series, winning 19 of 22 against the Bulls.  They’ll host DePaul on Saturday at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Louisville roughs up Marquette

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said his 12th ranked Cardinals didn’t want to take 25th ranked Marquette lightly.

Based on their performance, it would appear the players listened.  Russ Smith scored 18 points and Louisville shot 52% from the field, running away from the Golden Eagles
70-51.

The Cardinals finished 27 of 52 from the field after an 0-for-8 start and held the Golden Eagles to 36% shooting (19 of 53).  They also grabbed the rebound battle 38-26.

Vander Blue had 17 points and Trent Lockett 16 for the Golden Eagles, who have dropped two of their last four games.

The Golden Eagles fell back into a tie with Syracuse atop the Big East standings at 6-2.  They’re 15-5 overall.

Next up for Marquette, a trip to South Florida on Wednesday.

Blue helps Marquette vault into Big East lead

Junior guard Vander Blue scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Marquette Golden Eagles to a 63-50 victory over South Florida in Big East college action at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The 25th ranked Golden Eagles (15-4, 6-1 Big East) moved into a first place tie with Syracuse atop the Big East Conference.  The win is the 21st straight at home for Marquette.

The Golden Eagles did lose big man Davante Gardner midway through the second half after he was hit with a Flagrant-2 foul.  Gardner could be suspended for Sunday’s game at No. 12 Louisville.  Big East officials will review the tape before reaching a final determination.

Marquette turns into bait for the Gators

The Marquette Golden Eagles suffered their worse loss since the 2005 season, falling in the Big East/SEC challenge 82-47 to the 7th ranked Florida Gators. 

The 47 points scored is also the fewest point scored by Marquette in nearly three years.

Vander Blue scored 20 points in the loss for Marquette (5-2) and that may be one of the very few bright spots for the Golden Eagles.
