Player of the Year’ today.

Ferris passed for 3,949 yards and 50 touchdowns, completing 258 of 418 passes while throwing 11 interceptions this past season.  Ferris led the Hawks (12-2) to the Division 3 state semifinals.

Ferris was earlier named the 2013 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Year.  He set single-season state record for touchdown passes this fall, shattering the former mark of 40 set last year by 2012-13 Gatorade Wisconsin Football Player of the Year Tarek Yaeggi of Watertown.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school sports.

WIAA rules eliminate Xavier from Sectionals

March 8, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Xavier Hawks were set to face the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes in the WIAA Division 3 High School Boys Sectional Semifinals.  As of about 11:30am this morning, the lineup has changed.

Xavier used a player in their 50-47 win over Little Chute last week that was illegal.  The said player, reportedly played in a local league at “The Players Choice” in Appleton, not knowing what he was doing was against the rules.

Following Xavier’s win, it was brought to the attention of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA).  Wisconsin High School’s governing body ruled this morning that Xavier is ineligible to participate in that game and they had to forfeit their win over Little Chute.

According to the Xavier high school athletic department, the infraction was self-reported to the WIAA once the information first came to their attention.

So Little Chute now takes Xavier’s place in the Sectional Semifinal game tonight and will face Fox Valley Lutheran in a 7pm tipoff at Appleton East High School.

I briefly talked with Little Chute Coach Mickey Martin a few minutes ago.  Martin’s comments follow.
