The size of Wisconsin's budget deficit has some legislators looking at tax hikes, including veteran Assembly Democrat Marlin Schneider of Wisconsin Rapids.

The longest serving member of the Assembly says all options are going to be on the table, including a surcharge on the income tax and removing exemptions from the sales tax. He says budget cuts are also likely, due to the tremendous magnitude of a projected $5.4 billion deficit in the state budget.

Schneider says the state will need to look at any hike as a temporary increase that is necessary because of the dire situation facing state government.
