Wisconsin's new Secretary of the  Department of Revenue  makes a pitch, for electronic tax filing. State Revenue Secretary Roger Ervin used the bully pulpit of an Assembly committee to urge Wisconsin taxpayers to e-file. "We have very low electronic filing rate," Ervin said. For businesses, the e-filing rate is far under 50%. It's just under 60% for individual taxpayers, despite the ease of e-filing. Ervin said there are many reasons to e-file, not least of which is security. "It is the best way that you can preserve your identities from being stolen," Ervin said. Ervin added that the neighboring states of Minnesota and Michigan are far ahead of Wisconsin, in the percentage of state taxpayers who file electronically.
