Wisconsin Badger football coach Brett Bielema said at the team’s media day

LB Mike Taylor

on Sunday that he expects sophomore linebacker Mike Taylor to miss the Badgers’ season-opener at UNLV on Sept. 4 because of a recurring knee injury.

Taylor sat out a couple of practices last week and will have surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) to address the problem in the same knee that caused him to miss the final six games of the 2009 season.

The third-year sophomore from Ashwaubenon hopes to return no later than the Big Ten Conference opener Oct. 2 at Michigan State.  The Badgers open the season Sept. 4 at UNLV.

Taylor was considered to be the Badgers best linebacker prior to tearing his ACL last season against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
