Two teachers at Manawa High School in Waupaca County were suspended Friday following a Wednesday incident which involved a gun barrel. Police Chief Dave Walker said a teacher brought an antique gun barrel, with no other part of the gun, into the school’s shop area, to try and dislodge an obstruction in the barrel. Heat was applied, and the obstruction, a .22 caliber bullet, exploded out of the barrel and into a metal door. No was hurt in the incident which occurred in the early afternoon during normal school hours. Walker said there was no class in the room at the time but one student was present. The chief said no criminal charges will be brought since the barrel in and of itself does not fit the definition of a gun. Further discipline of the teachers will be handled by the school board.
