A 14-year-old boy is in custody in Anoka County, Minnesota, following a series of incidents Monday in western Wisconsin that included two car thefts and an attempted armed robbery.

Polk County Sheriff Pete Johnson says the 14-year-old is suspected of driving a stolen vehicle in Eau Claire County, then attempting a burglary at a home in St. Croix County while carrying a handgun. He was spotted by police in southern Polk County Monday evening near New Richmond, and led officers on a high-speed chase.

The teen left the car and went running into the woods. Police believe he then stole a second vehicle and left the area.

Johnson says the teen was picked up by police in Minnesota at about 6:30 this morning, after crashing the car while again trying to flee. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, with plans to transfer him to a juvenile detention center.
