A 13-year-old boy is recovering after being pulled from a muddy utility hole by the Weston Fire Department.

Rescue workers will called to the scene at about 7:30 on Wednesday, following reports that a boy had fallen into the hole and could not get out. A witness says the boy’s younger brother initially fell in to the hole, and the 13-year-old got stuck while saving him. The boy was caught in mud up to his knees and started to sink deeper when people tried to pull him out.

Tim Stieve, Captain of the SAFER District Fire department says rescue workers laid ladders across the hole to support their weight, allowing them to pull the boy out of the mud.

The hole was caused by a water main break, which created the muddy conditions. It was dug earlier in the day Wednesday to fix a gas leak.

Stieve says the boy was examined by paramedics at the scene and was found to be in good physical health. He was then released to his mother.
