Counselors, health professionals, parents and educators from around the Midwest are gathering in Green Bay for the 2011 Adolescent Health Symposium. Topics to be covered include sex assault, childhood obesity, as well as use of drugs and alcohol.
High tech harassment will also be addressed by Justin Patchin of the Cyberbullying Research Center. Patchin says his lecture will address how to prevent and respond to this type of bullying.
He reminds us that with kids always being online or using their cell phone, a cyberbullying victim is essentially, “tethered to their tormentor.”
Patchin says a victim not going on-line doesn’t work, as bullies can be defaming them to others through websites or texting.
The Symposium runs today and Friday.
