With prom season underway and high school graduations coming up, the state Department of Transportation is urging teens to remember that alcohol and driving don’t mix.
DOT Alcohol Program Manager Collette Brown says teens are often excited about hanging out and having a good time as the school year winds down. Still, she says those young drivers lack experience and can often take risks, which can serious and even fatal injuries.
Brown says teens should remember that getting behind the wheel after drinking is not only dangerous, but also illegal. She says they’re emphasizing Wisconsin’s Absolute Sobriety Law, which prohibits all drivers under the age of 21 from having any alcohol in their system. Those caught violating the law can face a $400 fine and have their license suspended for three months.
