The centerpiece of this year’s Thanksgiving dinner should be “affordable.”

Turkey prices are expecting to be stable, according to University of Wisconsin poultry expert Ron Kean. He says we should be paying about what we paid last year. “Frozen turkeys probably around $1.00 a pound, maybe $1.10. Of course, that could vary depending on all the sales.” We’ll pay more for fresh and organic.

A few years ago sales brought prices down to around .49 cents a pound, but Kean says, “That would probably be on the low side. I would expect to see some in the .79 cent range … it depends on how badly they wanna get you in the store.”

Supply is not a problem. Kean says there should be plenty of birds for your Thanksgiving feast.
