Fond du Lac is now in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest Fondue set.
The eight-foot in diameter metal pot, large stirring fork and nearly 1,250 pounds of cheese were all put to use over the weekend during the Fond du Lac Fondue Festival.
Organizers estimate about 15,000 people attended. One of them was Wisconsin's 60th Alice In Dairyland Jill Makovec . She of course was on hand to point out the importance of agriculture in the state.
Kaoru Ishikawa is an official adjudicator for Guinness World Records . She made sure the boast of the largest fondue pot and fork lived up to expectations, which it did.
Local manufacturer Brenner Tank made the huge pot. In addition to the cheese, 12 kegs of beer were used for the fondue, making a total of 2,500 pounds of the gooey stuff, which was then scooped out of the pot and poured over trays containing bread and pretzels.
City Council President Mark Jurgella says the event raises the profile of the city and some of the things for which the area is known. (Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce)
