La Crosse's R.J. Seidel, who played his high school baseball at La Crosse Central high school will have a choice to make later on this summer. Seidel is in a win-win situation though. The 6-6 pitcher was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round of the First Year Player Draft earlier this month. The Brewers have asked Seidel to play Legion baseball this summer in La Crosse so they can further evaluate him and then offer him a contract at the end of the summer. If Seidel doesn't like the offer, it's not the end of the world though. He's already accepted a scholarship offer to the University of Arkansas, meaning there's a backup plan in place. Seidel said he would love to start playing pro baseball, but the offer has to be right. He also has experience on his side. R.J. Seidel's father Dick Seidel has been through this before, as a draft pick of the New York Yankees. He's been able to give his son R.J. plenty of advice and background, which means whatever decision is made, it'll be a well thought out decision.
