A Dairy Policy Summit is going on in Wisconsin Dells.

Dairy farmers convene to talk about the state’s $26.5 billion industry. Wisconsin Farm Bureau President, and dairy farmer, Bill Bruins says there are some exciting opportunities in the world market place. He notes, a big percentage of dairy customers live beyond the borders of Wisconsin and the US. “Marketing is obviously the best way for us to get a good price for what we produce, and yet as dairy producers we spend so little time on marketing.”

Bruins says many times producers are so focused on their own operations that they can’t see the big picture. He says there are no dairy producers in the country who are happy with the status quo. So, they hope to create policy that works better.

Meanwhile, former Ag Secretary Rod Nilsestuen was scheduled to speak at the event. Bruins says his untimely death last month was a shock to the ag community. “A true leader of Agriculture in the state of Wisconsin,” he says, “We plan on a moment of silence to reflect on Rod’s contributions, as well.”
