Michelle Obama attempts to restore enthusiasm for US Senator Russ Feingold, who is trailing behind his GOP challenger, businessman Ron Johnson. The president’s wife recognizes fatigue and frustration among Wisconsinites, but she encourages patience, saying change takes time. “I know that for a lot of folks change hasn’t come fast enough. And believe me; it hasn’t come fast enough for Barack or for Russ, either.”
At a fundraiser in Milwaukee for the three-term incumbent, Michelle says the “change” the Obama campaign promised wasn’t supposed to happen instantly — the moment the president stepped foot into the Oval Office. She tells the crowd that her husband can’t do this alone. “He cannot do this alone; he needs strong leaders like Russ to help him.”
The first lady’s approval ratings are higher than her husband’s. Meanwhile, Republican Party of Wisconsin Chairman Reince Priebus says in a statement: “For a guy trying to run on his independence, Russ Feingold sure is getting a lot of help from the Washington establishment.”
